New regulations have led museums to take Indigenous artifacts and human remains off display until they can receive consent from the descendants of the people those items were taken from.
The #Manitoba#Government refuses to search the #landfill that contains the remains of two #Indigenous#women who were left there by a serial killer, citing safety concerns. But in #Canada we have successfully searched landfills for human remains in the recent past. These are just a few of those stories:
The #remains of the two Indigenous women are, firstly, not even certain to be in the #landfill; they're merely suspected to be there. Second, if they are there, they've been there quite some time, and are therefore significantly deeper, which does make #excavating much more #dangerous. Third, they don't know with any degree of #certainty which section of the landfill would contain them.
It's dangerous, impractical, and expensive. But a nice story.
Last month, a unknown molecular biologist claimed to have worked on alien DNA at the Battelle National Biodefense Institute. They posted an incredibly detailed breakdown of their work on r/aliens, then disappeared. (old.reddit.com)
