Back at the #TabletWeaving with organization colors, while I’m waiting for my bigger rigid heddle loom to be sorted out. I got new yarn that more closely matches the actual colors of the org now (although they aren’t coming through here) which is nice. But mostly it’s just nice to be weaving again. Fingers were getting antsy - this is my “productive fidget”.
Been a wee while but I’m back to #TabletWeaving! Upgraded my loom with some wider pegs (the tension peg in particular is much easier to handle now), and weaving up shoelaces in 20/2 mercerised cotton. Going carefully as I’m scared the tablets are going to snap a warp thread but so far so good!
My latest experiment with brocade. This is two colors, which is way more of a PITA than you would think. I will note that I am playing around here. The supporting warp is 60/2 but the brocade is 20/2. So I expect some nonsense. But, I don't think this is historically inaccurate either. I'm still digging on that. #tabletweaving#brocade
This week’s #TabletWeaving pattern: forget-me-nots! Trying out my new wooden cards this week - I think I prefer their size, and they certainly allow more weaving length on my small inkle loom, but they’re a lot more snaggy on the threads - will need to spend more time playing with the tension to get these right!
In between illness, work and family staying, it’s taken me over a week to get the loom warped up for some more #TabletWeaving. This week is the Cambridge diamonds pattern, which immediately caught my eye as a current Cambridge resident. Trying out swivels this time too for the twist.
After a slightly weird start, the diamonds are coming out regular and consistent (seems to want a very strong beat down!), really pleased with it 😍
I mean I guess I could 'accept' them pushing random transphobic crap at me to try to get me to watch it (even though I will co tinie to ignore it) if they at least also pushed recommendations for the #TabletWeaving stuff I'm actually watching, too. 🙄
However, I have now discovered that if one watches a single vid about parrots talking, you get a plethora of parrot talking recs thereafter. Possibly forever. 🤔😂
You're welcome! I haven't engaged with actual people doing #TabletWeaving as of yet: just watching videos and muddling around on a homemade board loom. 🙂
Hopefully I will start talking with more knowledgeable folks at some point -- as always, health/energy/responsibilities can reduce capacity for me.
It breaks my brain, and sometimes my arms and back, too, lol! 😂
Ok, the loom is comin’ to the woods, and so is the Puget Sound Ranger colored band! I swapped out the cardboard cards for laminated paper, in the hope the damp doesn’t warp them too much.
@jonobie@fiberarts@weaving I don't knit, but I #TabletWeaving complex stuff. I feel that, but I've going back a dozen rows or more at times. Lots of practice at unweaving makes it suck less.
