ICYMI, e-bike fire onboard a Toronto TTC subway caused rider serious injuries and shut down the line. How safe are ebikes? Imagine an onboard fire during busier commutes? - hope it doesn't happen
Toronto’s consultation process is broken: the decision to not pedestrianize Kensington market was justified by 34 objections out of 1615 survey responses.
Before leaving Twitter and deleting most of my posts there, I downloaded a full archive. I was meandering through it this afternoon enjoying some of the #TOPoli classics and in-jokes, like this one from over ten years ago.

just as many people will forever call it Skydome, many people will call it Rob Fucking Ford Stadium, because his regressive policies set this city back more than a decade
what's that? don't speak ill of the dead? well, what about if he was a genuine asshole?
Councillor Paul Ainslie has put forth a motion suggesting that the stadium at Centennial Park in Etobicoke be named the 'Rob Ford Stadium'
"Former mayor Rob Ford disgraced this city and made #Toronto a punchline around the world. Name a stadium after that him ? Joke’s on us. We need to be naming things after women anyway, enough stuff named after dudes for a while."
Toronto Police need a funding cut because they sent out this mailer telling me to ask City Hall for more money. Maybe if they did their jobs but that hasn’t been on the table in YEARS.
Please join me in asking City Hall to defund these assholes. #TOPoli
@rudy@monicarooney I can't spot any "good" points. There's really one claim from the Toronto Police Association in this politicking: they say they're underfunded.
It may be true that the City grew 13% since 2010, and they have 11% fewer officers. However, since 2010 the Toronto Police budget has grown 39%, over 3% faster than inflation. (1, 2)
Where are they putting the $? Their choices lead to fewer officers & slower response.

Faqiri, who had diagnosed schizophrenia, spent 11 days in segregation while experiencing a psychiatric emergency. On Dec. 15, 2016, Faqiri allegedly spit at one of several guards escorting him back to his segregation cell; the guard slapped him in response. After this, a hallway video shows six officers push Faqiri into his cell and one presses the Code Blue button, which sees at least another 20 officers run in for backup.
The hallway video does not show what happened in the initial minutes after the guards returned Faqiri to his cell.
