🇬🇧 We call for #transparency in the EU Commission's #DigitalServicesAct enforcement actions against internet platforms - do they respect fundamental rights and freedom of speech or do they encourage censorship and #uploadfilters? Let's guard the guards! #Pirates
Grateful to everyone who's engaging thoughtfully and proactively with the Stanford team's important report on how to manage CSAM across the fediverse.
And to folks who are responding with a defense reflex, I get it, having seen Big Tech respond the same way to research & news coverage over the years.
I think a mature fediverse is possible—one that takes problems and unfavorable media seriously, channeling frustrations toward addressing problems rather than lashing out at inconvenient news.
#EU#Meta#Privacy#Surveillance#UploadFilters#DigitalRights#HumanRights#DataProtection#Messaging: "Together with an affected Facebook user, GFF is filing a lawsuit against Meta. The company automatically scans Messenger messages sent by users. In doing so, the platform violates the fundamental rights to privacy and to control one’s own data. Meta is relying on a European transitional regulation that provides for exceptions to the e-Privacy Directive for a period of three years. The lawsuit aims to oblige Meta not to scan our plaintiff’s messages and, in light of the currently planned new regulation on chat control, have the courts establish that indiscriminate scanning of messages is generally incompatible with fundamental rights." https://freiheitsrechte.org/en/themen/digitale-grundrechte/chatcontrol_facebook
