Absolutely all of these things can be enjoyed, abused, and everything in between. All of them can lead to problems and/or can be part of a fulfilling and happy life.
You are approaching this with “She’s sick and she did this, disgusting” rather than “she’s sick and this is a symptom of that, what a shame”
Unless you are this harsh to people who have problems with the other things I mentioned and more, then you should evaluate why this specifically bothers you, it may speak to a preconception you have from a place of privilege.
It sounds like the post fits fairly well to your workplace, but at any rate I think the important part is that “respect” means different for different people and the core idea that some think there’s a difference incoming vs outgoing is problematic.
The whole core of “treat others as you wish to be treated” is this. It’s not about actions, it’s about intentions. It should be “treat others with the respect and consideration you wish for them to give to you”
You’re spot on, I no longer deal with said “veil of plausible deniability”
This is 100% how I approach all sorts of relationships in my life, not just romantic. That’s called direct and open communication.
I will straight up ask (politely) that someone clarify what their explicit stance is, if they refuse or try to play coy about it I simply let them know I don’t know where they stand and I don’t know what they want.
I’ve done this with bosses, siblings, my son, and my partner. I have grown to respect people much more because I understand them better and have also cut out some toxicity from my life that I didn’t know was eating away at my happiness.

Introspection is key. Are you actually nice or do you just think you are?
Would an average person describe you as nice? I’m not saying you should care what others think, I’m saying you can use what others say as a starting point, especially if it’s someone whose opinion you respect.
I don’t care if racists or sexists call me intolerant, but you can be sure that if my best friend who is a very sweet person said I’m being hateful then I would take that to heart and reevaluate my biases and preconceptions.
