Carrolade,

ngl, baptizing a baby in Gatorade is pretty innovative. They should’ve left it.

Carrolade,

I wonder how often they think “Man, I could’ve just been a normal rich snobby person doing whatever I want, and instead I get this…”

Carrolade,

Thank you. Carlos should clearly be holding a banana in this pic. You need multiple references when you’re dealing with something particularly large.

Carrolade,

Israel destroying Rafah is not stoppable without a military intervention. Even a complete divestment would be insufficient, Rafah is simply too small and vulnerable, it could be destroyed with small arms, hand grenades and some construction vehicles.

Is military intervention what is proposed? Be clear with what you propose, the US does not have mind control powers over Israeli leadership to convince Netanyahu to stop the war that is keeping him in power. There’s no Kryptonian in a spandex suit we can send.

Carrolade,
Carrolade,

You really can’t see how a historical example of widespread political assassinations pertains to an article featuring a political assassination, simply due to the target not being the same people?

Carrolade,

If you read the actual article, it mentions a political assassination that did succeed. Regardless, political assassination is political assassination, it is never justified in a society where the law applies to all people, regardless of the target. We need to take a stand against extrajudicial political violence period, unless we want to encourage more chaos and criminality in our societies. People that believe in violence are unlikely to stop at just some violence, that would be inconsistent and irrational.

Carrolade,

I was not saying they did, was I? I guess you don’t read a lot of stuff.

Carrolade,

So, you think some political assassinations are justified, or do you think the article does not have any political assassinations in it? It’s one of the two.

Carrolade,

Don’t underestimate the impact on attitudes. It’s less about beating Trump the individual and more about beating the methods he represents, and demonstrating their ineffectiveness outside of the primaries.

To use WW2 as a convenient example, the gross mistakes the Axis powers made that led to their own defeats are powerful for illustrating how ineffective their systems are. Like how the Japanese thought Pearl Harbor and the Germans thought invading Russia were good ideas. The simple fact that they screw up so obviously and massively decreases the popularity of fascism in the modern day.

While we’ll always have niche conspiracy theorists and such, it’s only a subset of people that swallow all that hook, line and sinker, and that subset was unlikely to be won over in the first place. More balanced sorts will be more willing to seriously weigh the considerations, though, and if Trump’s methods ultimately prove foolish, that’s a strong point going forward.

It won’t be so simple as fixing everything by beating Trump, that’s just a single battle in a broader, longer ideological debate. But it helps, far more than a loss would.

Carrolade,

White phosphorus is frequently used in smoke munitions, where it is not prohibited by international law. Additionally, a thermobaric weapon is another name for a fuel-air bomb, where an explosive is dispersed in the air and then the whole cloud is ignited, creating a large explosion. Thermobaric weapons are not banned, and have nothing to do with WP.

I’m making no claims about the IDF using or not using WP on civilians, which is illegal, but simply pointing out the misleading use of buzzwords in this summary.

Carrolade,

It’s a little more complicated than that.

That is specific to incendiary munitions, where the WP is used for its flame effects. WP also happens to be what makes tracer rounds glow as they fly through the air. Because the risk of fire is very low, this is an example of a usage that is not banned, even in civilian areas.

Protocol 3 is what you’re looking for.

Carrolade,

Are we really that sure that tv did not actually “rot people’s brains” to varying degrees? I would be interested in a more rigorous study of this before we dismiss all entertainment influences as simple culture war bullshit due to the genuinely overwhelming overuse of culture war arguments.

Carrolade,

Thank you for writing that out.

Carrolade,

… I hate how accurate this is. Very impressive.

Carrolade,

may be turned into a culture war battle

May be? Bit optimistic, don’t you think?

Opinion: Will the renewed US support for Ukraine be enough? (kyivindependent.com)

New U.S.-supplied weapons and money are now on their way to Ukraine. Whether to provide additional military aid was a matter of debate for many months in the U.S. Congress. In the end, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson stared down the most right-wing elements

Carrolade,

Ukraine does not avoid a partition by defeating Russia with superior military strength. I doubt even Ukrainians can win a modern land war in Asia, though they’ve surprised me before.

They avoid a partition by outlasting the Russians and exhausting their economic resources. Very similar to how WW1 was won. Once Russian society can no longer sustain the war effort without imminent societal collapse from lack of labor and money to pay for it, for all the sectors necessary in a modern economy, and dropping morale, then the end of the war will become visible.

Carrolade,

No, this is the home of the brave part. Note how the protests do not stop.

Carrolade,

It makes me very happy that I can actually completely agree with you this time.

Netanyahu has become a dog backed into a corner, with his only protection being a rabid pack of zealots whose god promised them land. He wants no cease fire, so makes unconditional surrender the only terms he’ll accept.

Carrolade,

Friendly reminder that the US joined WW2 because Pearl Harbor was bombed. Had that never happened, that war would have gone much longer.

Carrolade,

tbf, salad can come in many forms, and is often served in a bowl. Wrap is a bit of a grey area, but a salad in a wrap is a thing.

Carrolade,

…egg salad?

Carrolade,

I don’t know, I’d say tax cuts for votes is pretty much the same thing.

Also, China owns less than 5% of US debt. Most of it is owned by Americans and American companies. Anyone can buy a treasury bond though, that’s kinda just how it works.

So, pretty standard bullshit spin by a politician.

Carrolade,

… how else is evidence supposed to be? It’s called “a piece of evidence”.

I swear to god…

EXCLUSIVE: “You Have Been Warned”: Republican Senators Threaten the ICC Prosecutor over Possible Israel Arrest Warrants (zeteo.com)

A group of influential Republican senators has sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan, warning him not to issue international arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and threatening him with “severe sanctions” if he does so....

Carrolade,

This is the military-happy wing, so they really don’t need much excuse. The “tougher” something sounds, the better. In their view anyway.
