I’m just pointing out that the notion that community A or an individual can decide whether some word is a slur or not in community B is ridiculous,

As a member of group B I consider the word community a slur (purely because it is convenient for my argument to do so). Never use that word again because it is a slur and it would be ridiculous for you to say otherwise.

Except X is only tolerating the intolerant, and not tolerating the tolerant.

Tomorrow he’s going to complain about being “cancelled” and how he “can’t say things anymore” while talking about the event where he was invited to speak in front of a college full of students.

You can say whatever you want, people don’t have to listen.

I’m sure someone said the same thing about Photoshop. Somehow we survived.

They tried: no company named “Twitter” exists.

How hard would it be to flag a suspicious ad and require a human to review it?

Hard? No. But then humans would have to be paid which would slow down the growth of the dragon horde.

Better to have a computer analyze the ad that another computer thinks looks real.

So much like “seeing a photo of fairies doesn’t mean fairies are real”, seeing a clip of Trump meeting Jesus doesn’t mean it’s real either. People need to adapt to finding out how to look into a claim more than just saying “I saw a picture so it must be true.”

I’ll happily call it X because it was such a monumentally stupid idea to try to change the name, and if ‘X’ actually caught on it would be much worse for ‘X’.

Shy of personally running down Elon and asking him, what are you doing to do to verify this?

I’d personally suggest “Don’t buy something just because there’s a video of someone endorsing it.” Whether or not Elon endorsed it doesn’t change if it’s a good investment or not. (It’s crypto, it’s not)

“We should listen to both genders”

No problem here.

“We should consider the male perspective”

Sure.

“FeMiNiSm bAd!”

And that’s where you lose it. You’re saying both genders need to be listened to, then rejecting Feminism because it’s women being listened to.

Dell responds to return-to-office resistance with VPN, badge tracking, and color-coding of employees (arstechnica.com)

After reversing its position on remote work, Dell is reportedly implementing new tracking techniques on May 13 to ensure its workers are following the company’s return-to-office (RTO) policy, The Register reported today, citing anonymous sources....

Dell will track employees’ badge swipes and VPN connections to confirm that workers are in the office for a significant amount of time.

So if you need a tracking system or you wouldn’t know if they were in the office or not, why do you need them office?

we had warned about this years prior

What would you have liked the Democrats to have done, keeping in mind that Republicans have a majority in the house? Can’t amend the Constitution.

Republicans keep being given the power to delay and deny anything the Democrats want done, and then people complain about Democrats not doing enough, so they don’t vote, which allows Republicans to keep doing it.

It’s frustrating how successful the strategy is working for them.

CileTheSane,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

That didn’t happen.
And if it did, it wasn’t that bad. <- We are here.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.

Phone companies could easily prevent call spoofing which would make it easy for them to block known scam numbers. They have chosen not to.

Can Mint read files from a Windows partition or is it a different filesystem?

I’m waiting until there’s a good sale on Hard drives to set up a dual-boot.

There’s no way most of those 100k people are actually going to participate in the ea feedback / qa process

On first launch it asks if you’re willing to have your play data submitted. So even if people don’t actively send feedback they are still providing data about what systems/weapons/upgrades they engage with more or less, how successful their run is with any given weapon or upgrade, how frequently they win or lose in a given fight, etc.

CileTheSane,
@CileTheSane@lemmy.ca avatar

And it’s entirely possible they have given it that thought and decided “yes, this is worthwhile for me.”

I’ve purchased a fair number of early access games from indie developers.

For me the benefit is that it’s often cheaper during EA, so I get it at a discount, and it already feels like a complete game worth the price I’m paying. I know they are actively working on adding more to it, and having more things added to the game for me to explore extends its lifespan for me. So I get more enjoyment out of it than I would waiting for 1.0, at a cheaper price.

For small developers it gives them the funds to continue development, and feedback that helps with game balance.

Neo having super powers in the matrix was explained. Not how he had them in “real life”.
