My blog post is up reflecting on , how we can try to make computers better, and what to do about the obstacles we face doing so. https://blog.testdouble.com/posts/2023-12-04-90s-coolest-failed-operating-system/

Thought about setting up a board in my personal info management app, @Riverbed, to track shipments and delivery dates from different sources.

But I probably need to be getting less shipped, instead of making it easy to get more shipped.

Does anyone know any decent app for iOS where I can log dreams and my thoughts? I’ve been wanting to jot down my dreams but the main app on iOS doesn’t do much as it has a very small word limit

@SinclairSpeccy I like Bear Notes for general notetaking, including journaling. Obsidian is also pretty popular, but I haven't heard of many people that use the iOS version

Been having a blast playing Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II for the PS2.

I guess I still suck at the games though lol. Much better than the EA stuff

@SinclairSpeccy omg I had no idea that existed. These repeat video game names make no sense. I sort of get it if you're going back to the main name of something ("Doom" or whatever), but "Star Wars Battlefront II" is a really specific name and really doesn't need to be repeated 🤦‍♂️

Alright so, I think Windows 10 won't work on the 2014 mini without a new Win 10 license, because I only have 7 and 8.1 licenses, and it doesn't have a built-in optical drive, and it's not worth the effort for me to get it working or the cost to buy a new Win 10 license.

And Haiku install drive freezing on boot screen currently. Will keep the partition so I can retry occasionally.

So for now, it's a Mac and Linux gaming machine 👍

@vga256 I have a USB optical drive; does that support booting? I didn't think it would

CodingItWrong,
@CodingItWrong@bitbang.social avatar

@vga256 I actually installed Win 10 updating from 7 on my iMac a few weeks ago, so if that's disabled now I definitely need to not touch it and just enjoy what I have!

CodingItWrong,
@CodingItWrong@bitbang.social avatar

@vga256 oh nice, that might totally resolve it. I am gonna want to look into that. Thank you!

@SinclairSpeccy play the sims and have them listen to music, eat, and sleep

Now that I finished Halo on the G4, I think my next game might be Diablo II (original) on the G4 MDD. You wouldn't think a 2D game would need a beefy tower, but it definitely had trouble on the Pismo.

Time to summon all the skelemans!

eBay shipments from Europe take so long that I imagine a knock on the door, I open it, and goddamn Norman Reedus is standing there with a refrigerator on his back, wiping his brow.

Got Be programming working. It's funny because "hello world" in this book doesn't render anything to the window, it just is a functioning window, because to have that happen with that few lines of code was already impressive 😄

I think I found the classic Mac OS programming book I tried as a kid: Programming Starter Kit for Macintosh. I thought it was Pascal but it's C. It was too much for me at the time but I'm really looking forward to giving it another try!

@freehours9 yeah, HTML and Perl were what I really grabbed onto. I need to get the Perl book I read; I'm sure I'll recognize it

Alright so my G5 came with 512 MB RAM and Halo crashes with pixel shaders enabled. 2 x 2 GB RAM sticks should have just arrived in the mail. Think it will fix the pixel shaders?

CodingItWrong,
@CodingItWrong@bitbang.social avatar

This G5 can support up to 16 GB of RAM but I can't imagine what I would do with it.

I mean, 8 GB is all I need on a 2023 iMac! 😉

CodingItWrong, to random
@CodingItWrong@bitbang.social avatar

Just remembered the G5 will boot off FireWire, and WOW is an OS install over FireWire faster than a 2005 optical drive.

CodingItWrong,
@CodingItWrong@bitbang.social avatar

@vga256 not actually target disk mode, no. The G5 isn't booting as a drive; I have an external FireWire drive that I put a Leopard installer partition on, so I booted the G5 off of that partition.
