had a 9 month head start to attract people to its way of social media while Twitter was collapsing.

9 months that could've been spent making sign ups friction less.

9 months that could've spent adding basic support for quote tooting.

9 months to make this place feel more inviting and accessible (doing something about the HOA).

Instead 9 months spent talking about a protocol that should just be an implementation detail.

should have been . It needed product focus.

@selea I'm honestly trying to give benefit of the doubt here 😂.

30M signs ups on already.

Makes the rollout look comical.

is just a good reminder that the most important thing in a good product is dead simple UX.

Hello friends. Gonna be back in your beautiful country in a few weeks - any suggestions on things to see/do while I'm there?

Decad3nce, to random
@Decad3nce@mastodon.social avatar

You know what, here's the pseudo code for quote support.

  1. Parse html payload of a post from timeline/otherwise
  2. Extract urls
  3. Regex match URLs for common mastodon server patterns (you can improve this, I'm lazy)
  4. Call the search endpoint with url resolution on, this will give you the remote post from any server localized to the current one.
  5. Embed it using your rendering logic.

It's not hard - doesn't require protocol changes.

Is it weird to anyone else that all of the big "town square" spaces on the internet have been bought out at the same time that numerous precedents on bodily autonomy, personal liberty, and privacy are being rolled back?

It's almost like they don't want to people to organize and be able to do something about it. 🤔

Is it normal to tell all of your friends and relatives nervous about that there's nothing but smoke there?

All while you're trying to figure out what other potential careers would work out for you in the future?

@msprout ok good, I just want to make sure we're all practicing the same facade.

has less than 1.5M DAU, with a very spread out, global user base.

That's not a lot of intermediate nodes in the social graph for where people can find meaningful community.

The antagonistic discovery features make that worse.

As an open platform which is quick to put up walls to outsiders, it often feels antithetical to its own goals of broad adoption.

Decad3nce,
@Decad3nce@mastodon.social avatar

Maybe "growth" isn't the goal, but I can't but feel like I'm participating in a bubble often times.

Decad3nce,
@Decad3nce@mastodon.social avatar

I built the "View Reach" experiment into to see what the breadth of content progression looks like through the fediverse.

Anecdotally, most of all the initial depth nodes are connections to the largest servers (mastodon.social, et al), with a diverse but low traction breadth to others.

That just indicates to me that most content stays in bubbles unless you're already on a large server.

Also, it highly benefits users who are already on a large server.

🧔🏼‍♂️ I can't believe that Apple would advertise their Show "Silo" on Twitter! Twitter is evil! They should not use that platform at all! They should advertise elsewhere!

9/10

Crust is very familiar to Frelard pizza or Ballard Pizza (makes sense since it's Ethan Stowell)

Overall, buttery goodness on top of perfect crust drenched in egg yolk.

Gotta wait 5 minutes for the next place to open, running some stairs in the meantime.

I'm sorry if you see me being a dork in public.

Spot 2, Tutta Bella for some Neapolitan pizza 🍕

Che bella giornata oggi!

Decad3nce,
@Decad3nce@mastodon.social avatar

Classic Margherita pizza, executed pretty well.

7/10

Super thin crust, classic Neapolitan.

Bright sweet sauce, flash baked crust, decent mozzarella that I wish had a bit more presence.

Decad3nce,
@Decad3nce@mastodon.social avatar

@msprout it was tough to give it a 7, really should be a 7.5. But that outer crust was just a bit too dry for my taste.

Yep, Walmart won because it undercut everyone and forced them into selling.
