I remember a time when I was excited about , but for a few years now, it’s always felt like a drawn out death rattle with repeating information, cringe jokes and performances, and innovation that feels like it’s trying very hard to convince people of its usefulness when actually it’s just empty promises. 😅

@amxmln So true.

Worst keynote ever. It is totally one dimensional, and could have been named Gemini I/O.

I think my decision to not travel from England to CA to watch it live was a good one.

chrisonline,

@mark So true. For me this was also the worst keynote ever. Sadly.

Yesterday I have finished the prequel game from .

This was such an awesome storyline and such a good presentation.
Great details, great scenes. Sad that I am now finished with this game.

Android 14 has sadly changed that a notification can't be set as non-dismissable:

Changes the way users experience non-dismissable notifications by allowing users to dismiss notifications action even when the Notification.FLAG_ONGOING_EVENT flag is set.
This does not apply when the phone is locked, or if the user selects Clear all.

Another restriction I don't understand from Google :-(

chrisonline,
@chrisonline@androiddev.social avatar

@MobileOak I fully agree, but in my app I need a non-dismissable notification because it is a reminder.
The reminder was only dismissable with an action button.
So you can't accendentially remove the notification.

Now this is sadly possible and I get, of course, some bad reviews in Google Play because of this. But the fault is at Google :-(

chrisonline,
@chrisonline@androiddev.social avatar

@amokrane Yes the notification should be sticky until the user completes the reminder.
So you can't accendentially remove the notification. This is important because you would miss your reminder otherwise.

As you mentioned I need to code again a workaround to show the notification after the user swipes it away.
But it is very sad that I need to code this for such a small feature who was working since early days of Android :-(

Just started with . Looks interesting so far. But I don't know if I'm able to play this through. Looks like a gane you're unable to finish if you don't play it in 1-3 sessions that aren't spaced out widely.

And as I seemingly can't save in levels I can't play it casually but have to take my time for it. Could be problematic.

I guess I should've started it on Xbox instead of PlayStation so I could make use of Quick Resume. (It still drives me nuts, that 3½ years after the release of the Xbox Series X no other platform has something like Quick Resume. 🙃

@kaiserkiwi what is quick resume?

chrisonline,

@kaiserkiwi Wow this is a awesome feature.
I was happy on the that this is possible at least with the current game.

Now I want also a quick resume on 😛

So I’ve already sort of mentioned it here a couple of times, but yes, I got myself an iPhone back in November. 😅 I’ve always been an Android user so far…well, here’s what I think of this very expensive device after four months of using it.

Question to the community: if you have pets - any type, as long as it walks around the house by itself - are you able to have motion activated lights? If yes, would you mind sharing your "tricks"?

Our 3 cats move a lot, and climb everywhere. It has been very hard for me to figure out how to make that happen with the minimal false positives as possible.

And yes, I've been considering presence sensors as well, but they're bigger and bulkier than simple motion sensors.

TIA.

@badnetmask I have the same problem. Would also be interested in any tricks about this.

I’ve been active on since July of 2012. I think it was the second social network I ever signed up for and it definitely was the one where I had the biggest following. I met a lot of great people through it.

Tonight, I exported my data and I’m planning on deleting the account once I’ve verified everything is there. I’d be very sad to lose anything that I posted there.

It’s kind of weird to see more than ten years of my life wrapped up in a little folder on my laptop… 😅

I've realized that there are no good sites/apps to track video games in the way that we have Letterboxd or Goodreads or The Storygraph.

I just tried to figure out what games I played in 2023 on a few different platforms, and I couldn't. It seems like Nintendo and Sony only present that information to you as part of your yearly wrap up. And if you happen to miss your yearly wrapup because you didn't know it existed, then tough beans I guess 🤷🏿‍♂️
