PPVs (pay-per-views) in the wrestling world are weird, and as a "story" fan, they cause some weird narrative structure things that you don't really get in most other storytelling.

In the weeks leading up to the PPV, there's a lot of things building up and very little resolutions... because they want you to pay money to watch the PPV.

I feel like media needs a tracking system like we have for conservation of endangered wildlife, because there's a lot more nuance than just "Lost media" and "Not lost media"

Like, if something only exists online, with no physical media and no way to outright "buy" it (and no guarantee that even if you do buy it you get to keep it), I'd put that under "Conservation Dependent", in that if it's not 'conserved' (read - pirated) it could very well disappear.

Trying out the TamperMonkey Kbin enhancement script on @MattTheDev 's @NerdBin instance and it works great. Had to make a tiny tweak (adding nerdbin.social to the list of sites it's looking for) but that's something anybody should be able to do

Would still love to see it maybe including followed "Magazines" on the sidebar instead of hidden in the Settings menu, but that's a battle for better coders than I

Every now and then some Fediverse block list drama floats through my timeline, usually because of the couple of admins I follow.

Even if you do not understand what is going on, I strongly advise you to donate to your instance admins, because reading through even a fraction of that shit makes my brain want to implode.

Server costs are important. Sanity costs are even more so.

If your instance has a kofi or patreon, please support them.

After playing around with both of them for a couple of days, I like the form factor and interface of kbin a lot more than Lemmy, but kbin (at least the instance I'm on) seems to have a lot of trouble keeping connected to the greater fediverse.

I got an invite code to BlueSky and... Mastodon has 100% spoiled me.

There's no way to really "find" people on there, I've searched for a few hashtags and looked at the recommendations but as far as I can tell it's kinda vacant of people/things that I am interested in.

The only reason I really joined was there were a few people from birdsite who went there instead of here and I wanted to keep up with them too, and THEY DON'T POST EITHER.

There's a local, well-known stray that we tried to adopt multiple times since birth but he was always fiercely independent and didn't want any help. We made sure he got shots and always had food, but he wouldn't come inside.

Yesterday, he came inside - not at our invitation, while we were carrying in stuff he just walked in and flopped down on the couch.

He's sick and decided he's finally ready to take up our hospitality.

I used to be a huge fan of MTV's animated tv shows (The Maxx, Daria, Celebrity Deathmatch, etc). But one of my personal favorites doesn't really get much love... MTV's Downtown.

The show only occasionally played, and more-or-less vanished in the 2000-2010 timeframe, and I was worried it would become lost media, but fortunately other people were also fans and have archived it on youtube and archive dot org.

I have a game recommendation that comes with a LOT of asterisks.

Pros:
This is an incredibly stupid, simple game that hits a lot of very nice dopamine-releasing spots.

Cons:
It has almost no actual gameplay
Its laden with ads.

I'm pretty sure the art is all AI generated.

There's no save function and a lot of people report their progress being wiped.

There's no settings or way to disable vibrate or sounds

Might be a crypto-miner?

TV fans in their 40s... what cartoons do you remember from the 1960s and 70s were still being rerun well into the 80s?

I feel like it didn't last into the 1990s because of the glut of new animation that came from the 80s gave them a lot more cartoons to re-run, but there was definitely a time in the early-to-mid-80s where things like Super Friends, Scooby Doo, Flinstones, Hanna Barbera were being used to fill out sub-prime schedule slots.

Every now and then, I am reminded of an event from 2016 - a bunch of people in the local poly community gathered together to watch the Trump vs Clinton debates.

After the debate, I got into a... let's say "heated discussion" with a friend of a friend about how my desire to take care of my mother was holding me down, and how I needed to read this new eye opening book by this amazing liberal upstart...

The book was... sigh Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance
