My new tinnitus seems to be a hum at roughly 160Hz, which is apparently uncommon. And it disappears if there's any external sound around there, so it seems like low frequency background noise is the way to go to.

The one that works the best for me in Dark Noise is the "spaceship" background hum, so I will be sitting on the bridge of the Enterprise for the foreseeable future!

    I gotta be honest, I've reached the point where the Shortcuts app is so broken in so many different ways, it's kinda charming now.

    Now, it decided it just randomly hides every UI element. It does this every few minutes, because why not? It's buggy with an attitude.

    so… this is hard for me, but i’m starting to think it may be time to consider getting a permanent wheelchair. i have a loaner. it’s old, squeaky, judging by weight it’s apparently made of lead.

    google seems lousy with enshittified ad pollution.

    anyone out there have any good info/advice/love of a particular chair?

    also any advice for coming to grips with this transition in my mobility would be greatly appreciated.

    plz boost if you can.

    @isaiah I am sorry to hear this. I would have a hard losing my ability to walk/run. Exercise is so important. Even if you have to take a chair done give up on getting around.

    I still think of myself as having joined Apple "late", but it's amazing to think that I was hired only 12 years after the introduction of the Mac. Soon I will be among the people who only ever worked there during the first half of its existence.

    I’ve been really bad at social media the last few months for lots of reasons, most mental health related, but is Mastodon stuck in the same idiotic debate about how the shot on iPhone aspect of Monday’s event is problematic and misleading b/c they used said iPhone alongside pro gear? B/c this is truly the dumbest outrage tech thing I’ve seen in months and months. Like it is genuinely insipid and we’re all dumber for even entertaining it.

    My FineWoven Magnetic Link watch band finally arrived (dark green).

    It's not as nice as Apple's leather predecessor (left, navy), but looks and feels more premium than Alma's alcantara (right, orange). Hops (background, brown) is nicer than all three.

    These bands are VERY comfortable and fashion-versatile, as long as you don't often get them wet. I've worn the leather ones a lot in the winter. The FineWoven seems like a successful replacement for day one — we'll see how they age.

    current status:

    tuesday marks 2 months since my skateboard accident. ~8 weeks since the hospital broke my arm. 5 weeks since covid. 3 weeks in PT.

    covid: gone. still have fluid in my ears. normal for me. i think i’ll get ear tubes installed while the deductible is met. i mean, why not?

    hip: i can limp around a room and stand for a few minutes. no cane req’d. i still use the wheelchair to get from room to room. i can do a few stairs but the second floor remains frustratingly elusive.

    @chris true story. My friend who feels the same way about Trump that you do was getting married in NYC. I went to the Trump Bar and Grill in Trump Tower and got an envelope to put his wedding gift check in. Upon inspection he tore up the envelope including the check.
