I've stopped boosting images that lack alt text. Even ones that I love!
I live in Nova Scotia, with my husband, border collie and three Cornish Rex cats. I seem to spend 90% of my waking time in the kitchen, cooking and the rest out walking my dog.
I do not post or comment on anything political.
I write stories and take pictures. They are on my blog mostly.

Edit: So reason has prevailed, and we will not be getting another.
Our ages (74 and 67), potential compatibility issues with current incumbents, and costs have all factored into the decision.
Thanks!
The mother of one of our cats (Zaz) is due to have another litter next week.This is what's going on in my mind.
We have 3 Cornish Rex Cats already:
Badger who is 9, we got as a retired breeder, then aged 6
Pangolin, also retired breeder is about 4
Zaz will be 2 next week.

EllieK,

@Likewise
Hmm.
Steven's just balked at the idea of another litter tray.
You see, Zaz is pretty much alone. The others (mother and daughter) are always together.

EllieK,

@Likewise
They're very active cats. That's why 4 might be a houseful. Not destructive, just active.

Technical Cat Question

Edit: I have decided, as we have no guests, to store it in the guestroom cupboard, which has 2 doors!
Zaz has become obsessed with chewing my exercise mat, even rolled up. She finds wherever I hide it, no matter where I put it. If I can reach it, so can she, only more easily. I don't have a cupboard with a door (if I did she would work out how to open it or scratch the door to pieces to try to get in).
Help!

EllieK,

@aetataureate
She is lovely... thank you.
Thanks for the idea, but it's too wide and big and I wouldn't have the room to put a bin that size in the little room.
It can't be good for her, I'm sure.

EllieK,

@mummynurse
No need to apologize, your English is perfect.
She loves aluminum foil, I have to hide that too! Ha ha! But that's easier to hide being smaller.

@aetataureate

EllieK,

@ysabet
I've had that, for Joni. Let me check to see if we didn't throw it out when we didn't need it any longer. Good idea.
So it's not toxic for cats then?

EllieK,

@Meznor
She's terribly single minded. She doesn't usually chew anything else. Except for aluminum foil if i leave any out!
I can't keep an eye on it and her as it's upstairs in our bathroom. And if we don't leave the door open, there's no heating !

EllieK,

@mummynurse
She loves her exercise wheel. And other toys. She lives in a cat's paradise.
Maybe she needs another kitten! Lol!

@aetataureate

EllieK,

@aetataureate
It is like a yoga mat.

I might be able to find something like that. Thanks.
I just attached a photo of the rolled up mat to the post.

EllieK,

@pitch
Thanks. If it ever stops raining I'll try that for sure. I just hope the raccoons aren't attracted to it! Ha ha

Leisureguy, to food

A new batch of tempeh is underway: desi chickpeas (kala chana) and Kamut® (organic Khorasan wheat).

Excellent!
I have to get some started, myself.

Some rather stunning wrought ironwork on an untended building. There really should be greater powers to intervene to protect architectural gems like this.

EllieK,

@lionelb
Wow. So beautiful.

I already have some loss of hearing. 😢

STUDY: "Our study found that was associated with increased (exacerbated) hearing loss in individuals with hearing loss existing before contracting the virus."

https://hearingreview.com/hearing-loss/covid-19s-effect-on-pre-existing-hearing-loss

EllieK,

@augieray
I really hope this latest isn't covid.

You have become a watchword here between us now. When we think of doing anything remotely risky: "remember what happened to Augie Ray". And we don't do it. So some good might have come from your situation? Small consolation.
Our warmer days are coming. We hold on to that thought.

Feel better soon.

New glasses ordered. Prescription just had to be tweaked a little. I can't wait to get them.

EllieK,

@Callalily
Lovely!

EllieK,

@Callalily
Just about recovering. It was almost 2 hours. There is no sign of infection. A little concerning about macular degeneration, but he said my eye health had not deteriorated since I was last seen there in 2015. They say it's the food which is keeping that stable. There is no point in my taking the supplements as I'm getting way more lutein and Xeaxanthin in my food. My diet changed in 2016.
I am booked to go back in 6 months.
So I am calming down.
And YAY for a diet @wfpb

EllieK,

@Callalily
Plenty of dark green leafy veggies (kale, spinach etc) , as well as berries (including goji, black, raspberries and blueberries).

Sometimes I forget the reason I started eating the different foods like goji berries, but I just keep on, knowing there was a good reason. And then feel vindicated on days like today! Ha ha!
@wfpb

EllieK,

@Callalily
I really hope not. It's a scary prospect. Let us know.
I'm so glad I got mine under control, when I did, despite serious auto-immune disorders. Everything that we do to take control of our own health gives us a great feeling of power.

@wfpb

EllieK,

@Callalily
Oh, my! That is a worry.
This might be interesting to you:

There are other videos on the topic on the site, just search glaucoma.
I am currently reading his "How Not to Age" book (from the library). I highly recommend it.

EllieK,

@Callalily
I hope it helps.

Day 5 of the worst cold I can recall. Just tested negative for COVID for the third time in 96 hours. I'd been confident I could travel safely while wearing masks & avoiding crowds when possible. This illness has destroyed that confidence. I still hope to travel, but this may change decisions I make about flying, using group ground transportation, & timing trips for warmer weather. I wish sick people learned to stay home or wear masks, but getting each other ill is what we do now, apparently.

EllieK,

@augieray
I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling so rough. I hope it improves.

Eye appointment this morning. Hopefully getting a new pair of glasses. The light will mess up my eyes for about 3 hours after they dilate them. I hope my exam goes well.

EllieK,

@Callalily
I hope it goes well.
I see the ophthalmologist myself today. Including dilating ugh. No new glasses though, just trying to find out what (if anything) might be going on.

EllieK,

@Callalily
Thank you.

EllieK,

@Likewise
Thanks, Lisa. Something is happening, but fortunately, they got me in relatively quickly. Hopefully, it will be easily diagnosed and treated.

A year ago today, our little floof of chaos suddenly passed away of cancer at age 10. Moonshine was a perfect name as she was a beam of light but also had a kick. She only weighed 9 pounds but carried herself like a Tonka truck. She’d jump off the upstairs bed and we’d hear her all over the house. Silence wasn’t safe with her around. This past year has been far too quiet. We miss her.

EllieK,

@danmccullough
A year stretches forever when you lose a friend like this.
We still miss Rupert, whom we lost in 2019. They never really go. They're always here in our heart and head. We would just like to see them and hold them again. That's the pain.
