New blog post time!

This week's game is P.O.D.: Proof of Destruction, a hectic single screen shoot 'em up for Commodore computers (and the ZX Spectrum) with a bit of Jeff Minter energy. Simple as it may be, it's got ideas, and those ideas give it a distinct feel:

This week's game is Little Master: Raikuban no Densetsu, a monster-focused strategy RPG brought to you by some of the people who would go on to make Okage: Shadow King. If you're familiar with Majin Tensei, this is essentially like that but cuter and simpler!

This week's game is Virtua Hamster, a canceled 32X game with a publicly available and slightly playable prototype. There may be little to do here, but I dig into how others and myself can still find value in playing around with it:

This week's game is Heavy Nova, an infamous robot fighting game full of bizarre design choices, slow gameplay, and enough invincibility frames to make a person want to give up. Is there fun to be found in it, though? I think so!

This week's game is Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, a curious spin-off of the Battle Network series. It was mostly maligned when it was new, but if you're into deck builders, give it a shot and you'll find plenty of strategic depth:

This week's game is Nyancle Racing, a platformer/racing game hybrid featuring a single cat person in a world of humans. I found that it doesn't quite nail the balance or the particulars of its gameplay styles, but at least it's pretty dang cute!

This week's game is Horror House, a nice, spooky start for October and the first adventure game to bear the Falcom name. Its small scope belies a richly dense atmosphere and evocative art that has a lot of appeal even today:

This week's game is Griffin, a Jackal-like run and gun that comes off as most interested in showing off its protagonist over anything else. It's nothing special, but at least there aren't too many games like it on the Game Gear, right?

This week's game is Accele Brid, a slower, grounded, and visually impressive take on the behind view style of shoot 'em ups. Powerful foes and intentionally stiff jumps give this one a learning curve, but it's a neat take if you can handle it:

The Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising beta was good fun, especially since they put a Miiverse equivalent in it for some reason

This week's game is Lunatic Fantasy, a tale of spirits, lovely visuals, self-discovery, combat, and girls kissing. It's a brief journey with many unanswered questions, but there are certainly things to like about it:

Deception IV is on sale on PSN , so now's a good time to pick it up if you haven't. According to PSPrices, the last time it went on sale was 4 years ago!

EphemeralEnigmas,

@gmr_leon Happy to help! Yeah I've been in the same situation, interested but hoping for a sale of some kind. It took forever, but better late than never!

Finally getting around to Crusader of Centy and it starts strong with an Atomic Dog reference and toilets you can walk inside of within the first 20 minutes

EphemeralEnigmas,

@mcoorlim It's definitely really charming right out of the gate, bummer that it didn't work for you overall, though. Here's hoping it sticks the landing for me, I usually love these kinds of games so I'm optimistic so far

EphemeralEnigmas,

@mcoorlim I see, jumping in games with this kind of perspective can be weird sometimes, I remember Beyond Oasis giving me a lot of trouble with some of its platforming so hopefully this is easier than that

EphemeralEnigmas,

@mcoorlim Yeah, that makes sense, I'll have to see and let you know when I start getting to those points

EphemeralEnigmas,

@mcoorlim So I got to the platforming bits, and I can totally see what you mean. The combination of the floatiness you mentioned (it feels very weightless) plus the way you accelerate in the way makes it feel weird. It also doesn't help that the first area after you get the jump has wind that pushes you off platforms if you jump at a bad time!

I'm really liking the game so far, but I can definitely see how the jumping was an issue, especially since it's more frequent than I expected

EDIT3: i'm going to close this to new submissions since they've slowed to a trickle now

new to mastodon? do you make cool shit? if you've got under 100 followers, reply to this with 1-4 images of stuff you've made and i will boost you to my 5.8k followers, because i want people who do creative work to find a place on mastodon

please note i will be spacing out boosts to not spam my followers too much

EDIT2: if you're a composer (or do similar non-visual work) you should probably drop a link to where people can listen to your work. maybe add cover art if you have any

EDIT: if i miss your post it's likely you're on an instance mine has muted, I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do about that

EphemeralEnigmas,

@eniko I run a blog called Ephemeral Enigmas where I write at length about all sorts of interesting games that you don't hear about often. Every week I post about a new game, so if you like learning about various curiosities, here's the link:
