@lilithsaintcrow For years now I've been concerned that Jetpack was a potential pain point for self-hosted WP bloggers who can't comply with the porn-hostile TOS at WP dot com, which are incorporated into Jetpack by reference. Although an Automattic person did indicate the incorporation-by-reference wasn't ever intended/enforced. Does make me wonder whether the TOS incorporations-by-reference could apply to data consents also, but I haven't looked yet.
@lilithsaintcrow Interesting! It seems to me (five year old memory) that I originally looked at it for some SEO-helpful features that I eventually accomplished with Yoast or abandoned completely as chasing Google stopped being worth worrying about in the adult space.
A third #Alabama#IVF clinic has halted treatment as the fallout from last week’s state Supreme Court ruling that frozen #embryos are legally #children continues to disrupt IVF access across the state.
The Center for Reproductive Medicine in Mobile, 1 of just 7 IVF clinics statewide, announced Thurs that it had paused IVF procedures in light of the court ruling.
@GhostOnTheHalfShell@pluralistic The problem with Mastodon-based solutions to search invisibility on the old, spam-choked, increasingly-unsearchable open web may not be "bring your content to a platform that is unsearchable by design."
I remain convinced that a decentralized human-powered recommendation engine is possible that will REPLACE Google/search and restore the open web to its ancient glory.
@GossiTheDog I think "Advanced Persistent Teenagers" are pretty much responsible for messing up that huge indoor Trump rally in Tulsa Oklahoma a few years ago -- the one where the stadium was embarrassingly empty because TikTok kids signed up for all the free tickets.
What kind of stuff was I posting on #ErosBlog twenty years ago? On a whim, I went back and paged through the February 2004 posts. They're pretty fluffy, for the most part, but I found half a dozen posts still worth mentioning. I think I'll do a little thread.
Violet Blue (@violetblue) had a #blowjob#howto book out and was getting bad reviews (WTF?) from pissed-off religionists on Amazon. Her epic #rant was memorable and worth excerpting:
"Why the hell are Christians reading my fellatio book, and even stranger, what unholy ghost possesses them to write bad reviews about it on Amazon?"
It was the 7th day of my in-person relationship with The Nymph and another thing that was new was the product category of battery-operated scrub brushes for dishwashing (or tickling naughty feet). Hey, she bought it AFTER getting fair warning, so there. "Eight dollars well spent!"
If you’re not already following @ErosBlog, here’s your nudge to do so. He’s been sex blogging for longer than any other blogger I know and his site is an absolutely fascinating treasure trove of vintage filth.
Mastodon folks tend to be pretty tech-savvy, but it's come to my attention that simply not knowing how to get ebooks not purchased from a big retailer onto their e-reader stops some people from getting books that way. So I wrote a helpful guide! Share it with someone who wants to support DIY authors and small presses! https://write.as/brendanhalpin/how-to-load-downloaded-books-onto-your-e-reader
@bhalpin "See also "If you keep your mandatory-ads-on-the-lock-screen Kindle in airplane mode long enough, eventually the ads go away, ask me how I know."
@johnefrancis@foone My dad the Cal Tech dropout took 300 bucks off a guy for fixing one of those back around 1980; we took it all apart (no book, no YouTube), spread it out in a careful array on a clean sheet of plywood, washed each part in gasoline (that was my job), replaced some little brass washers, and put it all back together again. He explained to me that the little marbles in fluid channels were a sort of hydraulic analog computer. Homeschooling is weird, yo. (The repair worked, too.)
Facebook keeps bombarding me with adverts for shapewear but the joke’s on them because I’m not in the market for clothes that make me uncomfortable, I just like watching the videos of hot women cramming their perfect huge tits into overly tight bodysuits.
@girlonthenet I have actually thunk serious thoughts about the ways in which adstack demographic targeting leads to men and women (and thousands of other binary categories into which social media users are divisible) end up inhabiting different worlds informed by algorithmic content that one half of the binary in question never gets to see.
Meanwhile I am not TOO broken up about FB refusing to show me the busty shapewear porns because, well, I have spent decades honing my own finding skills. 😀
