Survey finds that people want more information from their primary care provider about fertility; they report having fertility concerns dismissed by healthcare providers; and feel that healthcare providers lack sensitivity in discussing fertility related issues.
Frozen embryos in test tubes remain babies in Alabama: on May 3, the Alabama Supremes denied a request to rehear its ruling about this..
Look at the test tube and its contents and you may be baffled at the judgment that it contains a baby, but the Alabama Supremes' ruling is not about science, what you can see or what you think: it's about what a minority of religionists believe and want to force you to believe.
How to know when you've crossed over to full, freakin' paranoia?? When you read an article like this & immediately envision #Christofascist legislation to grow "abandoned" frozen embryos via artificial wombs so they can become neglected, traumatized kids--oops, I mean properly-educated RW voters. Voila... the next anti-abortion tool. 🤦♀️
Humanity, as well as Earth, don't need this "reproductive machine" envisioned in the classic song, "In The Year 2525"*. Not only the ethical implications are disastrous.
Many richer people will be able to pretty much procreate as they like, combined with existing technologies like #IVF.
Super soldiers of the type of #CaptainAmerica could be mass-produced without much...
And then there is also yet another ethical dimension, that of #fascist#eugenics. Who decides who will live or what will be procreated #IVF and then carried to term by an #ArtificialWomb?
#Humanity has already messed around enough with #evolution. Some combinations of the human #genome might simply not be meant to...
Fetal personhood rulings could nullify a pregnant patient's wishes for end-of-life care
“Recent abortion and IVF cases have highlighted the constantly changing landscape of medical decision-making and what that means for medical care. Given this shifting terrain, it is impossible to predict with any degree of certainty how a pregnant person’s end-of-life care directives will be interpreted” #Pregnancy#EndOfLife#IVF#Abortion
"The Christian nationalist movement has long used abortion as an issue to unify different strands of their movement. They know that if you can get people to vote on a single issue, you can control their vote. ...
If you dig deeper, it is really about the money and power, and not just sex."
~ Katherine Stewart, author of The Power Worshipers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism
"The hostility to women's reproductive rights is also accompanied everywhere with an embrace of far-right economic theory and a rejection of rights and protections for the workforce.
So the attack on IVF is just one piece of the much larger pie of controlling people’s rights. It should obliterate any illusions that they will stop with abortion."
Jason Sattler says that if you don't want to read the 920-page prescription of policies Project 2025 informs us Republicans will enact if given control of the federal government again, then read just one sentence, which sums up the whole project:
"'But the Dobbs decision is just the beginning.'
That would be the governing philosophy of a second Trump regime."
There's something seriously wrong with these #ChristianNationalist lunatics. Nothing will ever be enough for them when it comes to imposing oppressive, draconian laws related to #reproduction. They'll just continue going further and further for as long as they're allowed. The only answer is to stop them now. Opposition to #IVF is pure insanity, and out of touch with the views of the vast majority of Americans. And they know this, which is why they also oppose #democracy.
As Megan Messerly and Alice Miranda Ollstein report, the large anti-abortion lobby that comprises a huge part of the GOP base is NOT on board with GOP attempts to pretend it can be both pro-IVF and anti-abortion:
"Anti-abortion advocates worked for five decades to topple Roe v. Wade. They’re now laying the groundwork for a yearslong fight to curb in vitro fertilization."
"Since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled last month that frozen embryos are children, the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups have been strategizing how to convince not just GOP officials but evangelicals broadly that they should have serious moral concerns about fertility treatments like IVF and that access to them should be curtailed."
You cannot push the claim that "life" begins at conception and simultaneously approve of IVF.
The moment you impose the religion-based claim that the fertilized ovum is a full human person and enshrine it in law, you have locked yourself into an inexorable logic that makes anything – including destruction of a fertilized ovum in a test tube – which impedes the development of the zygote an assault on a human being tantamount to murder.
The problem begins with that foundational religion-based principle you're trying to force everyone to respect.
Michigan has become the last U.S. state to end its ban on surrogacy contracts after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a package of bills that included in vitro fertilization access and protections for LGBTQ+ parents. Under the 1988 law, potential parents had to seek an order from a judge granting them parental rights upon the child’s birth, or otherwise navigate a complicated legal process to adopt them. Read more about the law and its repeal from NBC News.

Right-wing extremists are taking even more radical positions. Apparently this group in #Texas is calling for executions of women who receive #abortions or even #IVF
