@GamingWolf@mstdn.games

Player of the old composite design video games. Repository of functioning and digital wisdom. May or may not be a living computer. Unfortunately humorous.

Retrogamer. Usually platforming and boomer shooters. Generally attached to my computer as if it were an artificial appendage.

Going through your various realities. Who knows what I'll find?

Duke Nukem 3D but it's a summer vacation episode. All the enemies, weapons, and items havehad their sprites changed to suit the beach theme. Otherwise it's more of the same but the level design is top notch. This is my favorite out of the official expansions.

The Mario Bros and Princess Peach take a vacation on some prehistoric islands, but Bowser continues to be Bowser. Premiere SNES title with variants of old enemies and secret pathways for shortcuts or some other goodies. I love when levels have secret exits so I'm all over that.

Also introduces the mount powerup in the form of our good friend Yoshi, many a success was born from abandoning one into a bottomless pit in order to achieve victory.

In many recent boomer shooters the default mousewheel behavior is the opposite of what I expect.

I expect to move down on the mousewheel to go to the next weapon slot and up to go to the previous. AM I THE REVERSE ONE? 😬

EDIT: Wow I even typed the opposite of what I actually meant. Oh dear.

It's been 30 years...

So I've played The Ultimate Doom and so should you, even if you've never played an FPS before just to give the genre a fair shake. You most likely have so I won't belabor you with a detailed account.
Purposeful level design, difficulty that changes the level design itself instead of an arbitrary metric. And watch out for the addition of Episode 4!

Are you Italian-American? Do you go around the world eating mushrooms? You might be a Super Mario Brother (3)

Once again, a game that is a must for anyone that came out not too long after I started existing. Play the NES one though so that you still get hidden block clues from the background. Marvel at the fact that no matter how many times you play this you can always learn a new fact about this game. Play with a friend and beat them up Mario Bros. style if you want.

Mario has had it up to here with Bowser's bullshit so he's decided to pack heat, a shotgun to be precise.

Note my gameposting or what have you is only coincidentally daily. I won't go too crazy on the pacing and just dump what I got so far.

After that it's as frequent as I clear them.

From bandicoot, author of the fan series Classic Mario World comes the start of another trilogy, "The Princess Rescue". The first one is straightfoward narrativewise. It's just Mario, Peach and Bowser... again. The other two are different in that aspect though. Gameplay and level design is still classy.

You took a portal back to Earth but the demons followed you! And they brought new friends.

The retail DOOM sequel a bit unlike the first game is one long super episode with more abstract level design that doesn't quite mimic the trappings of our home planet but is fun just the same.

This game forms the baseline for many mods you can find around the net, something I'm certainly just scratching the surface of.

Oh and watch out for those archviles. They're a doozy.

The Mega Mans will continue until morale has improved. Notably a considerably easy game and yet also high quality.

The utility items are now Rush adaptor modules. Your dog combines into yourself into a Power form and a Jet form.

And there you have it. Taking a break from Mega Man related content for a bit.

An old mod for Doom 2 made by TeamTNT that you didn't need to pay for. In the 90s before these types of things were littered with shove in as many monsters as you can maps, there were thoughtful, mesmerizing levels with exploration and something inexplicably odd about them.

Doomguy goes into a spaceship, and there's demons there, and in space and he goes into the Holodeck.

Sure no problem. My criteria is games that are good, games that fit my vibe, how I approach them, and most likely stuff you know about if you were a 90's kid. Plenty others work too. Here are some icebreakers.

Heretic
Quake
Super Metroid
Super Mario 64
Donkey Kong Country 2
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Commander Keen (2nd trilogy)
Starcraft
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Wario Land 4

More Mario goodness except wait no, I am the younger greener brother.. Luigi. His rescue will be that of Princess Daisy from Tatanga no less.

Music selection is great, and level/enemy mechanics that I haven't encountered before happen somewhere in the middle. A bit tough at the end with my most important complaint being about objects despawning.
