I have yet to see a SINGLE #AI tool that successfully carries out a complex task.

Mimic anything? No problem. Actually do something that comprises several steps? ALWAYS fails. In 100% of cases.

@stooovie chaining together several AI actions using Python seems to work WAY better than trying to do everything in one go.

@psychicparrot42 I was thinking about this when reading about Melinda Gates. You think she should be in prison?

Sure “almost mine”. Almost. I think my bid topped out at $300.

Sold for $5600. My raspberry pi based PiDP-8 cost a lot less and runs with a lot less fan noise, so I should be grateful.

We just released an update to Widgetsmith which adds Background Sound widgets. These let you listen to a variety of ambient soundscapes directly from interactive widgets on your home screen. These can either be styled like a standard widget, or you can use a photo widget the basis.

They are also available on visionOS where they can augment the Environments to give you that extra sense of immersion.

All the sounds chosen are high quality, perfectly seamless loops.

@_Davidsmith add birdsong and I’m there. I was writing my own but yours would be better.

Probably the worst part of my day is trying to make an email by copying and pasting into Outlook from Word.

GrantMeStrength,

@ernie on the Mac it’s impossible to copy a doc from Word to Outlook and retain formatting. Seems functional on Windows.

These miniature arcade games are just amazing. I have resisted so many, but not this one. Has an HDMI / USB port and everything.

Berzerk game.

I'm curious about Xerox 1980s office workstations like the Star and their document centric systems. And besides I'm a sucker for that black and white aesthetics, so I'm checking out the Dwarf Mesa emulator.

Here the ViewPoint 2.0.5 desktop environment is running in Dwarf under Crostini Linux on my Chromebox. The system is really intuitive and capable, even by today's standards.

Thanks for the extensive documentation?

(For example, position is optional. What will passing nil do?)

Please just turn the docs into a wiki, or an OSS repo that accepts PRs.

@chucker Apple’s developer docs need some investment. Relying on third parties to make YouTube videos is not a viable way of documenting APIs.

Saw in the theatre. I’m not sure why this movie didn’t do well, it’s hilarious and adorable and action packed and fun. It is about 15 minutes too long, but it’s got three or four long action scenes that are fun and innovative. Bryce Dallas Howard is a joy.

GrantMeStrength,
@GrantMeStrength@hachyderm.io avatar

@shanselman alternative viewpoint: it was awful. Long, tedious, predictable, boring..

Now LinkedIn has ✨AI Responses✨ that allow you to AUTOMATE PARTICIPATION in its swagless, digital cubical farm of a culture

Part of what I have always detested about LinkedIn as a time and energy sink is how perfectly it mirrored the vacant cultural average of work

Which makes sense: it's the place to hire and get hired, so you perform to the culture

And it's really funny to see that equation now play out in the age of AI:

let the robot perform FOR you

GrantMeStrength,
@GrantMeStrength@hachyderm.io avatar

@danilo a lot of communication is already. And then summarized by another llm. I like it, as too many people here write in pretentious bizness speak.

RealityOS tinkering. Over the weekend I found that to highlight the entity you are gazing at, you need to add the HoverEffectComponent:

if let sphere = scene.findEntity(named: "Sphere") {
sphere.components.set(HoverEffectComponent())

content.add(sphere)
}

GrantMeStrength,
@GrantMeStrength@hachyderm.io avatar

@pixel the way RealityKit works is, in fact, weird.
