BASIC (60 years old today!) was the first programming language I ever used - on a ZX80.

It made perfect sense (well, some of the string handling was tricky).

Learning assembler and Forth, and then Pascal, Occam, Modula2, COBOL, and on and on (C, C++, Objective-C, Swift, Rust) and more recently - and chronologically backwards - Lisp, has been a wonderful adventure.

My office now has a #PDP-10 (because we’re a modern, forward-looking office) and under WSL I can log into it using a graphical (Knight TV) terminal emulator from Windows. We should then be able to use messaging apps and improve our productivity as we write LISP software and explore AI.

We just released an update to Widgetsmith which adds Background Sound widgets. These let you listen to a variety of ambient soundscapes directly from interactive widgets on your home screen. These can either be styled like a standard widget, or you can use a photo widget the basis.

They are also available on visionOS where they can augment the Environments to give you that extra sense of immersion.

All the sounds chosen are high quality, perfectly seamless loops.

Happy 40th Birthday to my favourite computer system: the Amstrad CPC. If you’re American you’ve probably never heard of it, but was a huge deal in the UK and several European countries.

It was a solid Z80 system with decent graphics and sound.

Big advantage at the time was the inclusion of a dedicated mono or colour display.
