Watched #Argylle last night. Can understand why it may have underperformed with theatre audiences and critics. Not unenjoyable, but a bit of a hot mess, structurally.
Genuinely surprised that the trailers didn’t give away everything.
I’ll maintain that it’s too damned long for a theatre viewing, and the wrong TYPE of movie. Should have been a 90-minute light comedy/action/romance romp. Not a 2.5 hour ramble.
The action-comedy romance film stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena & Samuel L. Jackson.
OK, #Argylle? Basically Kingsmen without the ultra violence. Which, in case there are any doubts, works.
It's not deep, but it's a fun action movie. With some original plot points, and a spot-on cast. It heavily borrows from James Bond tropes, but it's not a full-on parody and not a comedy. It's just a film that's aware of its silliness (and that of its genre) and doesn't take itself seriously.
Get the popcorn, sit down, and enjoy the rollercoaster. And don't think about it too hard.
Saw #argylle in the theatre. I’m not sure why this movie didn’t do well, it’s hilarious and adorable and action packed and fun. It is about 15 minutes too long, but it’s got three or four long action scenes that are fun and innovative. Bryce Dallas Howard is a joy.
Dans le film #Argylle, le gentil est caché dans un vignoble en France, donc ils essayent de le localiser "Attendez non c'est pas en Bourgogne du tout, voilà, c'est au sud d'Avallon et au nord de Cluny".
I went to see Argylle last night. I don't understand why it got bad reviews, I really enjoyed it. Funny, clever script, surprising twists, and great characters. It's one of the better movies I've seen recently. It can be a bit ridiculous in a fun way at times, maybe that's why the critics didn't like it. #Movies#Argylle
I saw #Argylle#ArgylleMovie last night, and for the most part, I really enjoyed it. It's quirky and funny and over the top, and there are quite a few twists. There is at least one segment, though, that goes even past over-the-top, and that didn't have the effect on me that I suspect they wanted.
There is a mid-credits scene that you won't want to miss, and hopefully, you won't get spoiled for. 1/3
Both #BryceDallasHoward and #SamRockwell are terrific in this, though I seriously question the hair and costume choice for Bryce in the last section of the film. #HenryCavill is absolutely terrific and plays the perfect pitch.
#ArianaDeBose has a small-ish role, but she sings the two songs in the end credits, both of which I liked better for her than her songs in "Wish". #Argylle#ArgylleMovie 2/3
It’s hard to pin down exactly what isn’t wrong with #Argylle. Now, to be fair, we did walk out on it because it clearly wasn’t going to improve…
I think there might actually be a decent 6/10 movie in there if you whittled out 30 minutes of dross, tightened up action scenes, dropped Henry Caville once the action starts, and reshot every scene with the female lead using an actress with comedic chops.
