Next school year, my son will be left home after school for a few hours while my wife and I are at work. I’m looking for a way to detect when he’s home and have the front door unlock (among other automation scripts that are in place)....
Trying to keep my very picky eater 3yo healthy as we’re (hopefully) expanding his diet. Right now the only foods I can get him to actually eat are McDonald’s, a specific brand of yogurt, banana bread, some crackers and some bars. Refuses any beverage besides water. (He’s likely on the spectrum.)
I know you've thought of this, but encouraging you to try again. Ive found that kids will refuse something to eat and then come back to it later when they are actually hungry.
It may take a tantrum and crazy cry session, but with love and attention they can normalize and get back towards a more normal diet.
I get that kids have certain things they don't like, but for anyone whose kids only eat things that are deep fry brown, I think it's worth the short-term crisis to solve the long-term aggravation and health issues.
Edit: ok yeah I missed the potential autism part of question. Encourage other parents to stay strong with eating habits if that is not the case
He is now denying the validity of dna tests. I don’t want to say the past 35 years of having him treat me worse than he treats his sister had anything to do with his assumptions of my dna, but he was upset to learn that I am more Irish than him. I wonder what he thought of my mother before these results…
The only way I would touch these DNA tests is if I was somehow assured that it was completely anonymous and would be shredded as soon as I've seen it.
They literally turn around and sell your data, grouped along with others, to whoever wants it, and then get hacked and lose personal info. Hot mess.
You're looking at this wrong way.

Hi guys! So, yeah…Which games are good for a nice gaming session while on a flight? Last time I played one of the newer Tomb Raider games, and while performance was good, it decked (heh) the battery in less than 1h… So, while I like these too, if the flight doesn’t have a socket under the seat I might want to play games...
Musk is a drag on the company. But an electric car for 33k is what we needed. Especially when the rebates are turning into at-dealer discounts instead of waiting for a year.
How many landlords actually do it as a job? And how many just collect the checks and hire bottom of the barrel contractors for anything that involves work? In my experience it's been the latter.
Contest the performance review in writing. You can do it nicely, and factually. Put out a timeline with as factual of a tone that you can. But I would put it on the record and print the email and take it home with you and put in a safe place. Something like this can be used to justify a firing if not corrected.
And yes I know what at will employment is, but putting on record also helps avoid this being used as a pretext for some other illegal firing (e.g., age, gender, race, union activity).
Or someone talking shit about you to other companies - you can sue over that, but again, it helps if you have a record that supports it.
Overall, though: yeah, fuck that company. Go somewhere that you're valued and start finding a good reference at the place you're at. Coworkers that you worked on projects with can work if you don't have someone you reported to that's honest.
State Farm will discontinue coverage for 72,000 houses and apartments in California starting this summer, the insurance giant said this week, nine months after announcing it would not issue new home policies in the state...
It's not about that. That's the insurance industry's cover story.
The real story is insurance companies giving a hissy fit about being subject to regulation by the state's insurance commissioner.
If the insurance industry was only dropping coverage in the middle of forests, or on beachfront or riverfront property, that would make sense. But it's not. They're dropping coverage on infill development in the middle of cities.
