Imgonnatrythis,

Agree, the fucking veggies did this guy in.

Imgonnatrythis,

I dunno. It sounds like a somewhat feasible thing that could be kinda useful if done right. It just doesn’t actually exist which is the problem here. It doesn’t sound too crazy which is why people bought this thing. The part I struggle with conceptually is that LAM would essentially weaponize bots - the same thing all these stupid captchas are meant to stop. Also it would drive users away from websites and therefore away from ads. This would be all out war and the money (I. E. Websites with ad revenue) would ultimately win unfortunately.

Imgonnatrythis,

This one is particularly harsh since win11 has ridiculous artificial hard stops on installation based on made up hardware requirements. Also it sucks.

Imgonnatrythis,

Ok, but where will you be be sitting on Oct. 15th 2025?

Imgonnatrythis,

Hol up. So m$ is still making the patches they’re just not releasing them to anyone but enterprise users? The whole end of service thing doesn’t actually free up any of their resources its just a soulless push for upgrade purchases?

Imgonnatrythis,

Hopefully you bought your fully assembled pc with an official Microsoft sticker already on the case right?

Imgonnatrythis,

What’s next, a cable from Batswana to Brazil?

Imgonnatrythis,

I don’t think you read it closely. It says “non-toxic” glue. Sounds legit for eating.

Imgonnatrythis,

You sound like an ad…

Imgonnatrythis,

Glad I’m old enough to have eaten it back when it wasn’t!

Imgonnatrythis,

Yeah, I just watch TV at the gas pump like everyone else.

Imgonnatrythis,

Since it now the norm for everyone to film everything with a smartphone and in the vertical position (I’m old enough that this still hurts my soul), Ive hypothesized that it won’t be long before we start seeing a lot of tvs in this format.

Imgonnatrythis,

Where are the ads?

LLM queries for personal pdf libraries?

So perplexity can kind of weakly analyze the first few pages of small file size pdfs one at a time, but I’d love to have something that would allow me to upload several hundred research papers and textbooks that could then be analyzed for consensus and contradictions and give me more meaningful search results and summaries...

Imgonnatrythis,

Looks a bit beyond me unfortunately, but sounds interesting

Imgonnatrythis,

Interesting start, yeah looks a bit in weeds for my purposes right now though

Imgonnatrythis,

Menedely hold out here myself! Tried switching to endnote because mendeley is for all practical purposes abandonware now but the conversion is very painful with loss of a lot of data - notes, organizational structure etc.

Still using the old desktop app nearly daily. If it was still a living project, integrating something like this into mendeley would be incredible.

Imgonnatrythis,

Wow. Yes, this looks spot on thanks! Warning, Whenever I find cool services like this it seems like they tend to go under within a year or two, so apologies in advance.

Imgonnatrythis,

It still runs, but no updates, they just push their web interface which is very weak compared to desktop app. New user adoption is likely next to nil and most people I talk to under 30 have never heard of it. Unless there is a better tool to switch though I’ll never have time to replicate the organizational infrastructure I’ve built in Mendeley and really like it, so I’ll use it until it dissappears.

Imgonnatrythis,

Check out Afforai. It’s not perfect at all, but it is on track to do what I want.

Imgonnatrythis,

I dunno. I think X may be the least biased platform ever. It’s complete shit regardless of who you are.

Imgonnatrythis,

I disagree that a lot of society has “internalized this”. Perhaps Lemmy and other social media bubbles may lead you to believe this, but the sample sizes are ridiculously skewed. It’s like saying a lot of people love Arch Linux. Well, yeah, on Lemmy they do! But that’s not the real world. I just think we statements broadcast to a bunch of strangers on the internet are a bad idea in general.
