KaiReeve,

Well America used to be just a handful of colonies along the eastern seaboard, but then there was the whole manifest destiny thing. Going west meant heading out to the new frontier. Midwesterners are people who gave up midway.

KaiReeve,

Compelling villains are written with a deeper motivation for their actions than just ‘hurt people’ or ‘be evil’ and they have a tendency to challenge the status quo in some way. Such villains become sympathetic because the current status quo is oppressive.

It must be very difficult to write a villain for a contemporary piece of media because they can very quickly become a hero of the people.

KaiReeve,

You never know. Someone could make a time travel movie with it one day and then collectors will pay an arm and a leg for the left door.

KaiReeve,

I recently gave up my 3% mortgage from 2013 in exchange for a 7% mortgage. It hurts, but it was worth it to get out of Florida.

In the end, my housing costs actually didn’t change that much because my home insurance rates were skyrocketing.

KaiReeve,

That’s a good point, but I’m definitely paying more taxes now than I was before. My new state has income tax and tangible property (vehicle) tax that Florida didn’t have. I looked up tax distribution for my county and the majority goes into education, so I can’t complain too much.

KaiReeve,

There are 8 billion people on this planet now. Surely you can find someone other than your cousin.

It really shouldn’t need to be illegal, but I guess residents of the volunteer state require a little more incentive to find dates before the holidays, rather than during them.

KaiReeve,

It’s not because it’s “icky”, it’s because if you both have the same grandma then you only have one snickerdoodle recipe for Christmas cookies, genetically speaking.

KaiReeve,

I never called for a ban. I said maybe go out and explore the forest before climbing up the family tree. And it’s my understanding that most women understand the risk of procreating after 40 and typically avoid it.

But I’m not your daddy. You don’t need my approval to fuck your uncle’s kids.

KaiReeve,

Man, just existing on Tatooine is hard work.

-It’s a desert planet run by crime lords.

-The natives carry rifles and kidnap people just to torture them to death.

-There are little goblins driving tanks around the countryside stealing anything that isn’t sand.

-The sand is rough and coarse and irritating and it gets everywhere.

-Krayt Dragons

KaiReeve, (edited )

Goldeneye - the squeezing scene

Anaconda - regurgitated people

Congo - when they throw his brain

Mercury Rising - “Mother, Simon is home”

Peewee Herman - Large Marge

The truly harrowing experience I had as a kid was the Alien Encounter ride at Disney Orlando. I was 8 and it was a field trip so the peer pressure was high. Nightmares for weeks after that. I still remember it breathing on me in the pitch dark.

KaiReeve,

Prices change while you’re shopping? I foresee a lot of restocking happening if that’s the case.

If my milk increases 50¢ in the time it takes me to walk it up to the register, I’m just gonna leave that f*cker in the bagging area and walk out.

KaiReeve,

“You’re not wrong, Walter, you’re just an asshole”

KaiReeve,

For me, the solution was drugs. Half an edible and half an hour later I’m relaxed enough to continue my day.

KaiReeve,

Oh man, the variance you can get on French toast. Sometimes it’s heavenly and sometimes it’s just so soggy and chewy and tastes like scrambled eggs.

Pancakes are the most consistent, as you said, but even the best pancakes can’t beat the average waffle imho.

Turning Down Food Aid for Millions of Children Reflects Shocking Political Callousness (www.nytimes.com)

Fifteen states — all but one run by Republican governors — skipped the deadline to apply for a new federally-funded program that will provide $120 per child for groceries during the summer months to families of children who already qualify for free or reduced-price lunch at school.

KaiReeve,

From another article:

They include: Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, and Wyoming.

KaiReeve,

Elite dangerous is tragic. If they had half the budget Star Citizen has it could be an amazing game, but instead they’re forced to practically abandon development for years at a time in order to focus on games that bring in a profit.

Still, if you have a VR headset, a HOTAS, and enough patience to learn how to fly, it’s an unmatched experience.

KaiReeve,

My experience is the same as yours. I have an inner monologue, but it is not constant. My thoughts do not always come in the form of words.

In fact, I would say that wordless thoughts are my default and the IM comes when I am trying to figure something out.

KaiReeve,

Hm, interesting.

I can also have images when trying to figure certain things. For example, if I’m moving then I will have images of where to place boxes and furniture in the truck or in the apartment, but these images are typically combined with words like “if I put this here, then…” Or if I’m trying to remember where I put something then it’s memory combined with “after I got home I…”

In fact, the easier a problem is, the fewer words I use. But when something is really stumping me, the words are more prevalent. And angrier. More like “This doesn’t make sense! If the positive and negative are both connected then power should flow through. Maybe this f*cking thing is broken”

KaiReeve,

My attic is a dark, cramped space with no windows and a ton of insulation. What kind of attic do you have where someone living up there can see and hear everything that happens in the main living space?

Or rather, what have you done to think that someone with a complete dossier on you has resorted to occupying your attic in order to get the jump on you?

These days if you find someone living in your attic then it’s most likely a drifter looking for shelter. Better to find a man down on his luck than a large colony of pests.

How do I cope with my father hating me?

My father, who convinced me (16 m) at the time to move in with him instead of my mother when they moved. All 3 of the other siblings stayed with my mother. He then kicked me out the week I turned 18, a week into my senior year. Since then he stays in touch only to speak with his grandchildren (now going on 4 kids). I have never...

KaiReeve,

It sounds like your situation is similar to mine. My father is a sociopathic narcissist and I didn’t realize it until I was 30 when he effectively disowned me. It hurts to be rejected by a parent to such a degree and I was pretty depressed for a while, but it helps to know that he suffers from a mental illness. Knowing this also helped me to disown him, in turn. He was always toxic and harmful and I find now that I am happier without him in my life.

I do often wonder in what ways my life may have been better had I had a supportive father, but it’s much more productive to look forward than to lament over what could have been.

I hope that you are able to move past your father’s negative influence and be better off for it. Some men are just miserable people.

KaiReeve,

This would be a good experiment for Myth busters. I’d imagine that with the lid closed the increase in pressure would not be significant and the air particles would be accelerated more horizontally as opposed to vertically. This would, theoretically, cause them to accumulate more on surfaces below countertop level than above.

But I have no data to support this hypothesis.

KaiReeve,

So our choices in America are between conservative and slightly-less-conservative? So there’s a growing demand for a socialist party that doesn’t exist, but if it did exist it would lead to the domination of conservatives in politics?

Sounds like ranked choice voting would really help out with a lot of the issues that you presented. It’s too bad that the people who make our laws were voted in using the old system and changing that system in any way is a conflict of interest for them.

I guess things will only ever change if we force the issue.
