@Kolanaki@yiffit.net

I’m just a weird, furry, pan guy (cis he/him). I also have a big, blue username. I tend to edit everything I write like a million times within the span of a couple minutes after posting, so if you see one thing and suddenly it changes, that was just a first draft. 😅

Their “$6 Burger” wasn’t even $6 when it was new which is about the time I stopped really going there.

I sense the sarcasm in the title yet I find it to be accurate considering Diablo 4 is still new, OW2 has some controversy yet again, and Blizzard is part of Activision which is in the news a lot recently because of the Microsoft acquisition. Of course these things are going to be on the top of the front page; it’s current, popular shit.

All of a sudden? It’s been terrible for at least 10 years now. I have about 5 or 6 FireFox extensions just to make Google not suck.

Seasoning the pan with peanut butter and chocolate.

I can't code.

Across this vast Fediverse, I have encountered a trend of people answering questions with esoteric programming language speaking in tongues that I don’t understand, including under my own posts. I am a Boomer when it comes to coding and I am only 27. I don’t even know where I would start to learn it because programming is so...

I learned more by just taking the Doom source code and messing with it than I did from reading books. The main thing every language shares is the logic. Once you figure out how to translate your problem and solution into logical terms, using any language is rather easy; only the function names and syntax changes.

I’ve never written anything in Python, for example, but I am pretty confident that if I spent a day or so reading up on the syntax and functions and looking at some example snippets, I could port anything I’ve written in C, Java or Basic to Python.

I agree that books are dry as fuck and hard to keep up with as they tend to make a person fall asleep. But so much more learning can be done by examining others’ code that does the things you’re trying to do.

I did laugh at the Salesforce quip. I have seen it. It’s a fucking mess lol

My favorite tutorials are on like the 5th page of Google after all the ads and clickbait videos where I can find a short, to the point, written guide.

I miss GameFAQs. I know it’s still around but it’s not really updated for new games.

This is definition of film reboot. I think you’re referring to a software/hardware reboot.

That would just be turning it off and back on again.

Power Deleted...but shadow posts are apparently a thing. (lemmy.world)

I might have to look more into my state’s right to be forgotten law. I used PDS for about 2 weeks until no more zombie posts were in my profile (most resurrected by the opening of closed subs). I was cleaning out some gaming book marks and clicked on a reddit thread I’d kept and, lo and behold, I found myself in the...

It doesn’t. Not unless you have RES or some other extension installed.

It should at least find your profile, though, and from there you can find your comments.

I don’t mind it not being displayed. There is no point for account karma. Shit, even on Reddit where it was used as a value marker for selling an account never made sense to me because the average user doesn’t ever look at a profile and may not even notice your username because they’re kinda small and the focus of the entire site is on the content and not the individual and it wasn’t, like, a thing to think people with tons of karma were more trustworthy. If anything, the opposite was true.

I’ve heard that it meant your posts would have a higher chance of hitting the FP but I think that’s bullshit considering a vast majority of FP posts were not from the same group of people (exception: GallowBoob was everywhere and posted frequently) and often were very low on the karma totem pole.

In smaller communities, you’d see that because there are like 50 people there at any given time and the only like 2 or 3 are posting decent content.

I can’t remember if it was the XBONE or the 360. It’s pretty old tho.

I measure time in memes, bro. 1 month is old. A year is like ancient history. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Trying to lift it obviously doesnt work

Have you just tried harder?

Kolanaki,

All that means to me is that it could be dumb faster.

How do you get to be 25 without life experience? You’ve experienced life for 25 years!

Kolanaki,

Of all the subscription based services that exist and fucking suck, this is far from one of them. It’s a great value for what you pay if you’re actually interested in lots of games. I can end up playing everything that comes out in a month and end up paying less in a year than buying those games outright in that single month.

Similarly, PS+ Premium, which I spent $120 for a year and it paid for itself within a week as I installed and played through 4 different games that would have totalled twice the subscription I paid. (4x$60=$240).

A better example would be the subscription cost of a single MMO like World of Warcraft. You pay the same monthly/yearly fee as GamePass. For one game. One game that is old as fuck and not really too relevant any more, at that.

Insects are more sustainable and produce more with less. Crickets also provide more of the same nutrients as beef.

Instead of "casual" or "ranked" they should just have "play to win" or "play for fun."

Because it doesn’t seem to matter currently if you play ranked games or casual games, the general experience tends to be the same. But one has numbers and things to go with it. You still get people playing to win in casual games and you get people dicking around having fun in ranked games, and the ranks don’t necessarily...

I just disable voice chat these days. Makes the game (any game) so much better.

Another name for them would be adversarial multiplayer. But, basically yes. Anything where there would be winners and losers is what I would call a competitive game.

Though others narrow it down further to more high skill adversarial games like Quake and Counter-Strike and League of Legends/DOTA for their professional competitive leagues.

Co-op games that let you troll your buddy?

Things like L4D’s primary mode and Portal 2’s co-op mode.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

This is still an issue with matchmaking systems intended to keep the game balanced in developer controlled servers though, so I don’t know what the relevance is.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

You can compete against each other for points in L4D while not actually playing the adversarial/competitive mode.

You can kill each other in Portal 2’s co-op by being a dick with your side of the portal.

They’re the only things I can think of that are a gray area and not pretty well defined.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

If anything it happens more in the unmoderated matchmaking systems because there are no admins.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I figured it was obvious: because big books also start slow.
