Hi! I'm a German artist who paints traditionally using watercolors and gouache, I love to nerd around and have built a watercolor database.

I got a tiny palette and painted tiny paintings...

Why does my brain would rather go smaller than bigger?

I dreamed about art and was asked in my dream which advice I could give and I said:

Easy is ok, it's fun and there's nothing wrong with it. It's quick and you get decent results.
But if you try something new, something difficult, you can fail, but you can also learn and succeed and feel happy about mastering something you never thought you could.
By not trying, you rob yourself of the feeling of accomplishment. Which, again, is totally ok. But I want you to know that you can choose.

Just an addendum... I'm not sure why I'm like that in my dreams...

Awake me is painting lots of simple stuff... Am I talking to myself in my dreams?

Just to proof that I paint simple too... Feel very self conscious after that nap. That was unexpected.

Just heard a great talk about how social media is only advertisements and that it puts a pressure on artists, which is not about creativity but selling. This, according to the speaker, prevents artists from creating and causes burn out. It also leads to more generic art to hunt likes instead of the goal to create something of value.

I liked the thought and just wanted to share...

I realised, I painted many cats last year and this one started with a cat too...

This is Lyra, painted on stream. Now I have to decide who or what to paint next. There are still reference photos left from the lovely community that allows me to paint their pets on stream and in videos. So maybe one of those?

Started the day with a little watercolor painting. Hope you all had an amazing day too!

Just wanted to encourage you, creative people, to experiment.

Sometimes I have ideas in mind and have to test them out. Without it, I'd never create paintings like this one, which I'm still very happy about. It's gouache on stained wood... I never knew it would work out, but it did and I love the result as well as the process.

So have fun my friends and try out new things and make something beautiful.

Painted this lovely fella from the community to test some hemp paper for watercolors. The video about the paper is online on the YT channel now. The kitties name is Canetti and the portrait has already arrived at the owners home and was reviewed by Canetti himself!

Just love to paint animals and see happy owners. :) Every one of them is so worthy to be painted.

Got this tiny decorative (non edible) pumpkin from the farmers market. Love the colors and used it as an inspiration for a quick and loose sketch.

Will definitely paint it again...

Do you think I can carve it after to make a tiny lantern? I'm very unexperienced with decorative pumpkins.

@schizanon Is it possible? Do they have seeds inside, even the small ones? I never had one like this.

LanaArts,
@LanaArts@mstdn.social avatar

@schizanon That's so neat! Thank you. I will definitely try next year :) I'd guess they're like tomato seeds that you can dry and then plant in spring.

LanaArts,
@LanaArts@mstdn.social avatar

@schizanon Yeah, when I bought it, I've been told that I can last months and months. It's on my desk, not moldy, totally fine and I try to handle it carefully so it doesn't get damaged.
I did dry tomato seeds and grow them for years successfully, so if the seeds of this guy will do the same, I'll be fine. Thanks to pretty dry climate I have (luckily) little issues with mold. So let's hope for the best.
Thank you for the tip, it's a great one! Can't wait to see the variations next year.

@schizanon It sounds like the perfect plant for me tbh. I always go with what they "tell" me - how the leaves look etc. Next year will be so good.
Knowing this, I might take a look at the farmers market next time if they have another one that appeals to me, to have some variety next year. :) Maybe a different color or shape.

@schizanon If they cross polinate with cucumbers etc, will the others taste bad? I definitely have cucumbers, bell peppers and tomatoes around.

LanaArts,
@LanaArts@mstdn.social avatar

@schizanon allright. I'll just test it out and see what happens.
