Love seeing the home town make some good headlines nationally for once.
Unfortunately Katie Valenzuela who introduced this bill was just defeated in the recent election. Lost by only 500 votes with 8% turnout. People don’t like the direction of the country but won’t show up to support those fighting to make it better.
I would not move across country without a firm job that can cover your expenses. Especially if you have no social network to support you. This is how lots of people become homeless.
So start there, look at where you can find work, maybe make some phone calls, send emails, etc. Then once you have a sense of how much you’ll be able to make you can look at what housing is available to you. But realistically, surviving in expensive places with the amount of money you currently make may be quite difficult. Keep in mind that many of the very lowest cost apartments you see may be scams.
Also, consider looking at some cities closer to home. There may be some pockets of lgbt friendliness in your region that you aren’t considering and they may be lower cost of living. The places you listed are all extremely expensive and not necessarily somewhere you can just move without a plan.
I know everyone hates Reddit here but once you start to narrow things down, it might be helpful to ask specific questions on local subreddits to get input from locals.

Magnify? I don’t think so. Some UV can pass through some clouds so you can get burned when it’s cloudy, though it’s not common. Maybe that got telephoned into magnified by people.
Probably depends on the intensity and angle of the sun relative to the ground. But I’m not sure. Probably some complicated math you could do to find out.

Why not at least fight it out? I guess they thought they would lose and it might set a bad precedent? But now that this counter-strategy was proven effective it will be used again…
Climate change is already forcing millions of people around the world to leave their homes to seek refuge from the rising seas, devastating droughts and the other effects of global warming. But that migration is also happening within the U.S. as extreme weather makes parts of the country virtually inhospitable, according to a...
A note to add here. At the bottom of the article they list some zip codes they designate as “uninsurable,” all of which are in California. This may give the false impression that California is more at risk of climate related impacts than other states, but this is false. The reason some areas are having a hard time getting insurance is that California limits increases in insurance premium increases. This law was intended to protect consumers from unfair price increases, but if climate is increasing the risk of insurance payouts, then insurers will find it less profitable to operate here if they are not allowed to increase prices. So it is really more of an economic issue and not accurate to call these areas uninsurable. Anything can be insured for the right price, and other states will face similar risk increases. This will trigger either price increases or it will trigger carriers to stop offering insurance in especially risky areas if those prices increases are blocked.
To be clear: there’s a night-and-day difference between Biden and Trump, with the former having actually taking significant action, and being likely to take more if reelected. Trump will look to maximize both extraction and consumption of fossil fuels in a way that Biden simply didn’t and won’t.
Voting for the lesser of two evils can still be part of a strategy that acknowledges the inadequacy of mainstream political solutions. But it needs to be combined with other, more activist political activities.
I think identifying mushrooms with these apps is a fool’s errand at this point. They are almost always wrong, unless it’s something very obvious and distinctive.
Is this logic flawed? Obviously in swing races, vote how it’s needed, but if it’s probably going to be a landslide, why not vote for a third party? Some regions even allow for multiple party representation if enough people show interest, so it could be doing future good (if you think more parties is better representation)
I mean the vote has no practical effect in either case but differs in the message it sends.
With Trump on the ballot, supporting his main opponent to signal opposition to his candidacy was more important than supporting third party candidates, which I found fairly uninspiring in any case.
Because people look at the popular vote totals. Generally they don’t really look at the .3% the gray party got. But again, I think it’s all about what signals you want to send. Unfortunately, the electoral college makes it so most votes have little practical impact even in close races.
I have accounts on various Reddit alternatives and have also had accounts on now-defunct sites. However, none have exhibited the same level of negativity as Lemmy.
But are they more positive or just more ideologically aligned with you? I looked through your post history and most of the conflicts you had seem to be ideological in nature. Much as I wish it wasn’t so, strongly negative reactions to ideological differences are a prominent feature of culture right now, particularly in online spaces.
So, to give a relevant example, posting about how socialism is bad on Lemmy.ml (which is a Marxist-Leninist instance in case you did not know) is going to generate a strong negative reaction. But I don’t know that this is because of something inherent to Lemmy. This would likely happen any time you criticize socialism in a space where most people agree with that ideology. If you made the same post in a fascist online community, you might get a more positive response, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that community is more positive, just that you align with them on that issue more so.
