Which laptop has the best battery life?

Before was a thing, for me, I remember the only way to read my e-mail was physically going to University Computing Centre, sitting down at VT100 terminal and logging into local Solaris SPARC server where I have had an account with 2MB quota and reading my e-mail with Pine. This is also my social media story of the time with IRC.

What is your e-mail origins story?

How often do you check your mailbox? Once per day?

Now how often do you check your e-mail? Ah yes, push notifications... I think we are often slaving to technology when there is room to relax and go old school.

Perhaps I am not talking about you, but I think in many cases it would be healthy and reasonable to fetchmail once per day.

Let me know what you think.

Have you played Battle for Wesnoth? It is pretty good and it recently received a substantial update which includes support for high-resolution computer screens. Hardware requirements are minimal (it plays on a T480 ThinkPad) and the strategy gameplay loop is fun! It is also free software in every possible way.

Screenshot of 'Battle for Wesnoth' game information, featuring title, developer, publisher, release date, brief description, tags like 'Free to Play', and positive reviews, with a game map and units visible at the bottom.

Do you know that feeling when you can't wait to wake up tomorrow so you can play with some newly discovered powers? Yeah, I know! :garfield:

Good night.

Something odd I found out yesterday.

Unless I'm missing something, Control is a single player game.

Why is it, then, that I had to connect my Steam Deck to the mobile hotspot on my phone to get it to work yesterday?

I thought the game was broken for about an hour!

@majorlinux almost all Steam games have Steam DRM. I think you need to start it once online before you can start it again offline. I think that’s how Steam works but I never play offline because Steam does not count hours played offline and I like my hours played counter.

I can install Control on my SteamDeck if you want me to test it?

@majorlinux I could not resist.

@majorlinux maybe set it to Proton 9 beta? I didn’t set anything but it works fine for me. From “medium graphics preset” I turned off global reflections and decreased antialiasing from 4x to 2x and I now have a perfectly stable 40Hz gameplay.

I must admit that I am a bit excited to release this one to you.

(don’t click play on that photo, yet)

See you in about 7 hours!

@publicvoit @majorlinux I think we should continue the tradition of the humorous nature of this perceived rivalry. It is good for the soul.
