aurora visible from JO01 north kent tonight

initially there was just a glow in the sky but faint colours on the photos, at the end you could see the shapes and colours with the naked eye, but the difference in colours when photographed with my iPhone was incredible

@vga256 spent many an unhappy hour repairing them

worst nightmare was a HP 4Si with failed high voltage unit, you had to strip them to bare chassis to get to them

and no i don't miss my days in workshop :)

@vga256 besst one i had was working as a workshop engineer had to repair a 4Si on site in a finance house, main drive gear train stripped a gear, so took it all to bits pot full of various screws, was about to walk back to stores to get the gear train out a scrap printer and one of the finance guys walked up demanding to know when the printer would be online

my answer "when its done" he said sarcastically "do you know what your doing, probably won't work again"

@mattferrell as with so many items these days, they are not manufactured to make recycling at end of life easy

what is needed is the panel makers think about recycling as part of their design process

Could any of you fine folk recommend a meter I could plug into a UK mains socket that would give a reasonably accurate voltage reading? Possibly also to accept a device and measure its power usage? Want to see how under/over voltage my supply is as my EV matt:e is tripping out. Thanks!

placed the order to upgrade my internet from FTTC 60mbit to FTTP 300mbit

will see in 2-4 weeks if it was worth the extra money :)

@mw1cgg yep, several times a day, and the speed has dropped recently to a 1/3 of what it was when installed a couple of years back

couldn't remember who it was who upgraded thought it was you, :)

going for the 300mbit service (150mbit guaranteed minimum speed)

@mw1cgg @g0fcu yep, you spotted my deliberate typo :) (updated the post above)

my ISP is ZEN they are not the cheapest, but all UK call centres, and when i have had a line issue they were good, but all ISPs how don't have their own infrastructure like VM use OPEN Reach so at the mercy of BT's infrastructure

the one thing i did notice when i switched from BT to Zen my hop count to get out of the core onto the internet dropped by 6-8 hops when i run trace routes

i have also binned my landline number as well, so pure internet service only

Delivery due to be made by Royal Mail.

Didn't expect a Sunday delivery. Went out on Sunday.

Delivery attempted on Sunday (of course).

Delivery not re-attempted Monday (maybe fair, bank holiday).

Tracking says it will be re-attempted "the next business day". That's today.

It hasn't arrived. Delivery office now closes at 10am daily. Useful. Three different phone numbers. Two fail, one is useless.

No idea if it'll turn up today. Amazon's own couriers are better.

@ahnlak @bloor agree, likely out for delivery, as unlike proper couriers little postman pat don't have phone apps to update them on delivery options like "leave behind bin" or "deliver to no.xxx/ neighbour"
