1999 plan from (the colorful timepiece folks) to have the Russians deploy a that would transmit messages provided by Swatch fans back to Earth via amateur 2m frequencies.

The messages, gathered via the Swatch Web site, related to the Swatch company’s campaign to establish the “Swatch Beat” as a new “global concept of time.”

Needless to say, this aroused some controversy in the community.Transmissions never took place.

Thread radio frequency interference (RFI) 🧵
During the last winter we had to filter out large parts of our SMOS satellite thin ice data due to radio frequency interference (RFI): the grey ocean area in the image.

Luckily is not alone: NASA's can compensate for most of the gap. This map shows the same day 11 Feb 2024 for the merged SMAP/SMOS thin ice thickness.

Ha! NASA has a satellite specifically launched to track plankton (among other things)...

"The Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) satellite was launched on Feb. 8, and has been put through several weeks of in-orbit testing of the spacecraft and instruments to ensure proper functioning and data quality. The mission is gathering data that the public now can access at https://pace.oceansciences.org/access_pace_data.htm."

ESA : First ‘glory’ on hellish distant world?

@interessant
www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Cheops/First_glory_on_hellish_distant_world

For the first time, potential signs of the rainbow-like ‘glory effect’ have been detected on a planet outside our Solar System. Glory are colourful concentric rings of light that occur only under peculiar conditions.

Data from ESA’s sensitive Characterising ExOplanet Satellite, Cheops, along with several other ESA and NASA missions, suggest this delicate phenomenon is beaming straight at Earth from the hellish atmosphere of ultra-hot gas giant WASP-76b, 637 light-years away.

Ariane 6 launches : Robusta-3A for weather reports and radiation robustness

@interessant
www.esa.int/Enabling_Support/Space_Transportation/Ariane/Ariane_6_launches_Robusta-3A_for_weather_reports_and_radiation_robustness

Extreme weather, including flooding, is becoming more frequent as climate change takes its toll on the planet. One of the many regions to be hit by floods in recent years is the south of France, with heavy rainfalls caused in part by humidity above the Mediterranean Sea.

The Robusta-3A satellite, launching on Ariane 6’s first mission, is set to fly 580 km over our planet to help quantify the accumulation of water vapour over the Mediterranean Sea and improve the forecast of severe rain leading to flooding.

ai6yr,

It turns out I did have imaging for the find location. Likely here. Would have been tough as you have to do an A/B Google Earth 3D view to see any difference in the scene. Definitely would have required a ground search/confirmation of possible signatures.

The continent does not have a reusable rocket like 's Falcon 9, nor the capacity to rapidly build hundreds of complex satellites. Android's support has been in the works for about a year now, and it sounds like 15 is going to launch the feature for apps.

The new OS is including notifications and better status bar indicators for when you're connected to space.

A "NonTerrestrialNetwork" API will let apps know when they're limited to barely there satellite connectivity.

Google says Android 15 will let third-party SMS and MMS applications tap into the satellite connectivity APIs,
but enhanced messaging with RCS support will be limited to "preloaded" applications only.

It seems incredible that Google doesn't have public APIs for third-party RCS apps, but here's your confirmation that Android 15 will continue locking out Play Store apps from RCS.
