I hate being called "ma'am" by anyone but when it's by a (white, non-southern) man who is clearly older than I, it's infuriating. Happened at the grocery yesterday

Marks,
@Marks@esq.social avatar

@LeslieBurns Why do you hate it? Calling someone ma'am or sir is a sign of respect.

Marks,

@LeslieBurns As someone who does use the terms daily, I wanted understanding. I misunderstood your publc post. I meant no offense in my reply. Clearly I am out of my element and am really shocked by your response. Your feelings are your own. Have a nice day.

Meta is downranking/hiding political content on Threads. The company says Threads will “not recommend any content/accounts that post about politics.”

Here’s the issue: what counts as “politics” is often any news abt people who have had their whole existence politicized, such as news about Black people, LGBTQ people, disabled ppl, women, etc. Climate scientists, public health experts etc also considered “political” https://www.axios.com/2024/02/09/meta-political-content-moderation-threads

@taylorlorenz Best to look at election law free speech cases where political attire is banned but the voter wears a social issue.

Minnesota Voters Alliance v. Mansky, 585 U.S. ___ (2018) is a good read. Generally, information that advocates for or against any candidate or measure is a good best practice.

Roughly a year ago, I stopped logging into twitter. Recently, I decided to log back in, subscribe, and post content to see the engagement.
Paying does not seem to:

  1. Increase engagement
  2. eliminate ads
  3. offer substantive premium support
The general advice for content creators is to post everywhere, but I do not see the ROI for twitter. Sure, there are numerous conversations going on there and plenty of influential people are still on there, but is it worth it?

🚨 Breaking: Delaware judge rules Elon Musk's $56B Tesla compensation package from 2018 as unfair for improper approval & orders a redo. This highlights a key distinction between Corporations and LLCs. Corporations have more oversight and regulatory requirements.

Corporations, especially publicly traded ones, are subject to strict reporting, governance, and operational standards set by regulatory bodies like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the United States. They must disclose financial information, have a board of directors, hold annual meetings, and maintain detailed records.

zealots often shame humans for writing down their passwords, but as someone who just had to excavate the digital remains of a loved one who died suddenly:

please write down your credentials somewhere a trusted human can find them, especially your phone passcode and any primary passwords (like for email accounts, password manager, etc.)

the humans who care about you will need that access for many reasons; a "badass" threat model will only add helplessness to their grief

@shortridge I have a digital assets section in the wills I do for my clients just for this reason.

One of my for change in is to become a more willing person. Being a night owl is a hard to break.
It can be just as difficult to break bad routines.
What routines are you trying for your business?

Listening to an audiobook. Only 3% of the population writes down their goals. Top earners are in that group.

The former is very surprising. The latter makes sense.

Would have been interesting to have been a fly on that wall. Once again, we need more choices for our devices. It should not be just apple or google.
