Yeah, the biggest problem is selective use. Perhaps the footage should be sent to a central server, maintained by another organization. Both the police and the public should have equal rights to request footage.
But yeah, that will never happen.

To everyone pointing out trains aren’t good enough (latest today @jmovs & @Sustainable2050 examples), the question is: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Trains from France to Spain are crap. We know.

Does SNCF care? No
Renfe? No
French Government? Of course not
Spanish Government? No
EU? Very vaguely

I know what to fix. But the people who could fix it have weak or no motivation.

It's weird, because it's not like we lack the infrastructure or anything.
Sure, it's not perfect yet and a lot can be improved, but I can get from the Netherlands to the South of France without much trouble.
It just takes ages.
Problem is, it's just not commercially attractive for anyone to compete with the airlines.
We need political will to change that.

I don't know about the inland pricing of airlines vs trains in France, but here's a simple example: from Rotterdam to Marseille round trip end of May/early June is 404 eur by train. Amsterdam Marseille by plane is 212 eur. And only Air France KLM has that route.
Amsterdam Nice costs less, because there's are 3 airlines on that route.

Very nice.
So you agree the solution is in the will to make it so.
It's not attractive for Thalys to invest in more capacity, because it would lower their margin.
Still, a few weeks ago I was looking for an option to get to Toulon. I found a night train from Paris via Marseille and it seemed reasonably competitive with air fare, until I realized I still had to get to Paris.
There's just not enough competition.

I would love it if there were a night train from Rotterdam to Marseille or Toulon. Doesn't matter if it takes long, as long as I get there in the morning.
But sleeper services are practically non-existent in Europe.
I get it, there's no material to run these services, but it seems like there's hardly any interest in getting services going.
