@ElSupreme @cakeisnotalie The main interest Dems have regarding abortion is that it is a great way for them to raise money. Beyond that, it seems they really have little interest in it.

@womble @cakeisnotalie I had a real life experience with this. When I was in college I interned with a state senator in New York. Her entire platform for years was reforming the corrupt system of kickbacks in the assembly. When working for her I realized she got as many kickbacks as anyone and really never lifted a finger to get her package of reforms passed. When it looked like it might actually gain momentum, she switched parties.

@CosmicTrigger @SocialistStan @brendo I heard a screaming liberal commentator today going on about how the Republicans want to get rid of Medicaid. 14.7 million people just got kicked off of Medicaid because Biden discontinued the COVID emergency, which included automatic re-enrollment for Medicaid. So, yeah, clean your own house first.

Someone analogized the election as being a choice between the status quo (Biden) and something much worse (Trump or other Republicans). But that's kind of the problem. The status quo sucks. And it keeps getting worse. And the Dems keep wanting to keep this ever worsening status quo.

@alexanderhay I was speaking with a friend about this yesterday. It seemed like he was superhuman. That he couldn't die. So it was quite a shock and although I was just a fan, it felt like such a profound loss in my life, like losing a close friend or relative. But he left us with that beautiful final album as a farewell.

@cakeisnotalie @Radical_EgoCom What you are describing sounds more like charity than mutual aid. I will agree that charity leaves people out, much like government imposed means testing does.

Unlike charity, mutual aid works not from a benevolent mindset where one gives to someone less fortunate, but an exchange between equals for the betterment of all.

I started and ran a mutual aid project in my little town in North Carolina for about 4 years before handing it off to others (who unfortunately run it like a charity). Nobody was ever asked for proof of need, nobody was ever asked if they were worthy, or whether or not they needed the clothing we were giving. Everyone was able to get what they needed or wanted, no questions asked. It worked beautifully and nobody was left out.

What has your experience been with mutual aid that left people out?
