REPEAT AFTER ME:
FIVE

42!! Lucky number! NOT 84! (Even though it came out in '84, that's immaterial!)

The ONLY Macintoshes that ran at 512x384 were the 1990 Mac LC and IIsi with the 12" screen, and the Color Classic and perhaps other related later all-in-ones.

ALL MONOCHROME COMPACT MACS HAD 512x342 RESOLUTION SCREENS.

Ooo, I want to say 640x400, but I'm not sure. Maybe 720x400?

CGA was 640/320x200, EGA was 640x350, and of course VGA was 640x480.

I think MDA was 640x350??
Never used a Hercules, so I can't remember the res.

I wish I could understand it. This tongue twister song looks like a lot of fun. 😄

Cc: @mirabilos, @thedoctor, @sotolf

P.S., the youtube video has very good English subtitles

OH MY!!!!

English tongue twisters have got NOTHING in that! 😆

Randomly came across one of the oldest Youtube videos I've seen in quite some time, from 2006:

Its pretty much weekly, now.
I arrive at the end of every week not remembering my own identity or why I even wake up in the morning, but just wanting to escape reality.

It's so bad this week that I literally thought yesterday was saturday.

A weird part about minimalism is you get excited about getting rid of stuff that the average consumerism-minded person gets excited about acquiring.

A friend exclaims about getting a new mechanical keyboard, while I express the lightness I feel after selling mine and just using the perfectly fine laptop keyboard.

Do I really need a more visceral keyboard experience or is it just a weak compensation for some other lack or dissatisfaction from another unseen source?

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@vjprema

I really love the YouTube videos that are the opposite of "Cool Amazon things you need," where they talk about how the Amazon listings are actually pointless, or how you can do the same thing with junk you already have at home.

The genetic mutations I hoped to get when I was a kid:

  • The ability to fly
  • Telekinesis
  • Telepathy

The genetic mutations nature actually gave me:

  • Stinky sweat (Asians, y'all are missing out!)
  • The ability to smell asparagus (makes bathroom time interesting!)
  • An extra muscle/tendon in my wrist that only a surgeon would notice (because a surgeon once pointed it out to me)
  • The ability to digest lactose (poorly!!)

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel

What's the screen size, BTW?

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel

Miiiiight be a touch small for my eyes.

Can you give me width/height whenever you have a ruler handy?

Or does someone know how to do the math on that (assuming 4:3 screen aspect ratio?)

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel

I did the math, it's 2.8" x 2.1", assuming an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a screen diameter of 3.5"

Assuming a resolution of 640x480 (PSX), that's 228.6 ppi, or 114.3 for older consoles' emulation (320x240).

I'll do a mockup on my laptop and see if I can see the details ok. XD

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel @dm

Hmm, it's doable, but it feels kinda teensy to me.

Square screen, though?

👀 PowerPC 40x Processor Support To Be Dropped From The Linux Kernel
@phoronix

"Back in 2020 was a proposal for dropping PowerPC 40x support from the Linux kernel given that the code was orphaned for a long time with no apparent users. The PowerPC 40x processors were found in thin clients, set-top boxes, and other devices during the 90's. Finally now it looks like that the PowerPC 40x removal is set to happen"
