👀 PowerPC 40x Processor Support To Be Dropped From The Linux Kernel
@phoronix

"Back in 2020 was a proposal for dropping PowerPC 40x support from the Linux kernel given that the code was orphaned for a long time with no apparent users. The PowerPC 40x processors were found in thin clients, set-top boxes, and other devices during the 90's. Finally now it looks like that the PowerPC 40x removal is set to happen"

be like, that's ok, we still love the i386 and 68k, let alone older PPC chips!

Fediverse people that I've somehow influenced into buying a so far:

5

Or is the number bigger I wonder :blobcatderpy:

@joel

What's the screen size, BTW?

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel

Miiiiight be a touch small for my eyes.

Can you give me width/height whenever you have a ruler handy?

Or does someone know how to do the math on that (assuming 4:3 screen aspect ratio?)

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel

I did the math, it's 2.8" x 2.1", assuming an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a screen diameter of 3.5"

Assuming a resolution of 640x480 (PSX), that's 228.6 ppi, or 114.3 for older consoles' emulation (320x240).

I'll do a mockup on my laptop and see if I can see the details ok. XD

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel @dm

Hmm, it's doable, but it feels kinda teensy to me.

Square screen, though?

I've only seen little bits of it.

I'm really interested in his parents' faith journey story arc.

I'll have to stream it sometime.

Google "strikes back" eh? Getting a little melodramatic, are we not?: Google strikes back at OpenAI with “Project Astra” AI agent prototype https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2024/05/google-strikes-back-at-openai-with-project-astra-ai-agent-prototype/

    This old dog has learned a new trick keyboarding for .
    There are many types of Apostrophe, & even the descriptions are confusing.
    In the screenshot we see that the apostrophe on your keyboard is coded as U+0027, but the note says that U+2019 is preferred for apostrophe.
    On my system running , to type U+2019 I use the Compose key:
    <Multi_key> <greater> <apostrophe> : "?" U2019 # RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK
    Mine is set to Right Alt on my US Keyboard.

    @SolusSpider

    I remember when one of the touted features of good word processors was called "smart quotes" where straight quotes ('…' and "…") were automatically replaced with curved quotes (‘…’ and “…”)

    RL_Dane,
    @RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

    @SolusSpider

    Pretty sure I can cook up some kind of sed script to auto-correct straight quotes to curly in text files if that would be helpful.

    Actually, that would be a trivial and perfect use of sed.

    @amin, have you gotten scli to work in ?

    I gave up because pipx refuses to install urwid, and I think Debian's version is drumroll way too old. ;)
    I wish pipx just had scli. There's an scli package in PyPI, but it's literally an empty placeholder for nothing.
    Infuriating.
