So I'm trying out the phanpy.social masto client and there's a lot to like here. While it isn't super configurable, It has some very good defaults around how it presents stuff and solves a lot of my annoyances with the regular Masto UI. So far the only things I really miss is the ability to turn off boosts in a timeline (though it does already de-emphasize boosts a lot by stuffing them into a carousel if there are multiple of them in a row) and there's minor differences in keyboard shortcuts that I might either fix with a userscript or something or just learn to deal with.

I'd really like to see the ability to add super-configurable columns a-la old TweetDeck but I imagine that's a non-trivial feature to implement pretty much anywhere.

My kingdom for a notification pane that condenses favs and boosts of the same item :P

@gray17 Ah, hopefully it gets there soon, I mostly use the web client, and Tusky doesn't do it either

I've been considering a 2nd locked acc't just for vents, because there are plenty of things that piss me off.

But I'm also considering the notion that I need to be working a lot more actively to change my perceptions and processes of metabolizing new information so that, regardless of the objective state of things in the world and my life, I'm unbothered (or more realistically less bothered) by them. Venting can help me process — sometimes — but more often it's just a downward spiral.

@jonas Oddly enough I find that writing the vent down and then just deleting/not posting it provides some processing and catharsis, as it lets me get my thoughts and feelings out without airing them to the whims of social media, where I'd then have to keep it in my mind in order to handle the additional worry/energy about dealing with whatever undesirable reactions it might gather.

Hi, I'm stuck waiting on laundry to finish and am bored, so why don't I come on here and write some hot takes about YouTube?

I mean, I can think of several reasons, but too bad I'll do it anyway.

Knowing the leanings of the folks on this particular platform this is likely to spark some debate, but note that I'm not trying to paint YouTube as a saint - in fact, the first thing I want to talk about is a strategy they've taken which puts me and all YT creators in a weird place:

@TechConnectify my suspicion is that the subscription gets added to a pool and as you use either service it draws from that pool to pay for the stream, but I don't have insider knowledge either. Certainly I suspect that it's a feature (from Google's POV) that the cash flow is opaque, as that grants them the most flexibility.

I really dislike the button reading "Publish" when sending a DM on Mastodon.

It always makes me question if I'm really sending a DM or if I'm accidentally "publishing" something on my regular feed.

@fribbledom I'm personally not a fan of overloading the post UI to handle DMs even if the underlying mechanism is the same. Modal UIs in general kinda suck.
