@vga256 I'm not sure, tbh! But I rarely got PC Gamer, I could only afford one magazine per month, and the Australian one always took priority.

@vga256 Paying for a premium product! No doubt you also had “dad magazines”, which were more focused on productivity, hardware and general home computing than games. I just checked, and APC is still going - they’ve been in business since 1980. Wow.

@vga256 I find medium difficulty impressive in that it tricks me into growing complacent, not trying too hard and then suddenly I'm screwed. Which is a good difficulty curve IMO

@emmxyzzy What a great compilation - so nice to see DOS games that I haven’t played being talked about! I love all the usual classics but I feel like we’ve all discussed those plenty by now. Some of these look really fun. Ducks in particular is interesting to me - it seems to be a kind of tribute/answer to Chickens, but also I notice it’s made by the same guy who made Out of Order which I remember enjoying very much about 20 years ago!

@emmxyzzy Yeah, I remember Sludge seeming really impressive back then - sad that it never really caught on. AGS probably owes a huge amount of its popularity to the strength of its community, which at that time was SUPER vibrant. That and the fact that it’s still being updated to this day (and we still make and release games with it regularly).

@vga256 These are little frogs, they usually hide under rocks or in the undergrowth. There are invasive toads in Australia, but they haven’t made their way here yet, thankfully!

I got these flowers for my grandma on her 90th birthday, she immediately started playing hide and seek with them as soon as I handed them to her, so if you ever wonder where I get my childlike nonsense from....

Also today I was opening a can of baked beans, and I recall a friend from IRC chat telling me that beans on toast is a wonderful meal, beans on toast with cheese is a feast, and I had a very intense moment of sadness that I haven’t talked to some of my favourite IRC friends for so long. I remember staying up until 2am having some of the most wonderful chats with some of the most interesting people.
