I wish there was a way to improve the C++ parsing used by code highlighting. It's not great for macros.

@kenney Can I ask, what software do you use for your website? In particular your knowledge base?

When programming something, you use all the tools at your disposal to work out what is happening in your program when it goes wrong.

You can set breakpoints and step through with the debugger, inspecting the value of variables. You can print to the screen or to logs.

You can record huge amounts of data and play back what happened step by step to work out what went wrong.

@StompyRobot

> Car owner and their insurance company would work, too, because in the end, that cost will end up being borne by those using the cars.

The car owner would claim "I was not driving, the car was driving itself."

The car manufacturer would claim "It's just a bug. We have a billion lawyers to win our case."

> Once the robots are safer than the humans on average (which Waymo already achieved)

Sorry this is factually incorrect. They have blocked data release, lied about accidents

@_benui Pretty sure the DMV can figure out ahead of time what the liability will be, as a rule, before they allow sale to individuals.

The current liability is on the companies operating the test vehicles; that's already settled.

@_benui It's not even real triangles! It uses fancy math based on triangles to output pixels! Look up what a RASTERIZER is! SHOCKING that they get away w/ this!!!

Saving up my paid time off days to have a few days to recover from the family "vacation".

I find travelling and being outside my comfort zone incredibly tiring.

@_benui Wise! It's a massive amount of new info to process all day. Tired just means you were paying attention. 😀

@calicoday that's a kind way of putting it.

How to block Threads.net instance through the web interface:

  1. Find a Threads user like @mosseri
  2. Click on the ...
  3. Choose "Block domain threads.net".
  4. Confirm popup.

RT and let's keep Facebook and corporate interests out of the Fediverse

@_benui@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Amelia that would be amazing but I don't think the admin would on my instance

Remi123,

@_benui Thank you for sharing! Interesting and useful. I remember when I knew the secret of the pure function node the first time. I remember also when I knew that the container output pins of the node were the copy.

Has anyone else noticed that Rider's debugger has gotten slower in the last few months? It regularly takes over 30 seconds to resolve the value of any variable, and stepping forward means another 30 second wait.

I don't know a single person who uses threads. Twitter, Mastodon, Cohost, Bsky, Insta, even Facebook. But who the fuck uses threads.

j0hnny,

@_benui what would you say is the most popular one for game dev space besides Twitter? I‘m here, twitter and bsky… but they all feel a little dead to be honest. I miss the twitter vibe we had a few years back. I mean the times when people posted tons of amazing tutorials and insights and screenshot saturday was pure fire :)

_benui,
@_benui@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@j0hnny twitter seems most active still, followed by here, followed by bsky.

each has its own audiences though. here is more popular with godot users and open-source people. bsky just seems to be social stuff, not tutorials.

I used to be enthusiastic about technology.

Was a teen when people made homepages. I could talk to people around the world.

Mobile phones were neat. You could text your friends.

Then with smart phones you could practice language and play genuinely innovative games for a couple of bucks.

I can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited by tech. Maybe it's a factor of becoming a jaded old piece of shit.

Phones no longer have 3.5mm jacks. You can't charge your phone and listen at the same time. Bluetooth still doesn't always connect. You have to charge your $200 headphones. You can't put them through the washer and expect them to survive.

Mac laptops haven't improved in a decade. They took away MagSafe and brought it back. They replaced F keys with a bad touchbar.

Cars have replaced dials with touchscreens that distract you and can't be operated without looking.

Search used to return the answer you wanted, from a page made by humans, maintained from a sense of altruism. Now it's just ads and AI plagiarized garbage.
