In March of 1997 WIRED Magazine published their cover story on how browsers might soon disappear as everyone would prefer stuff pushed to them instead of discovered via following links.

It was widely panned and browsers are still very much alive today but I have to say when I look at Instagram and TikTok, those are all-Push content apps and maybe WIRED got it a little bit correct?

@mathowie @nckh Indeed!
Most of the most popular/used/viral are algorithm-based push.

I'm wondering if the original article is available anywhere.

Does anyone know what happened with the Space Gremlin app? https://www.spacegremlinapp.com

I canโ€™t find it in the Mac App Store. And I donโ€™t seem to see it in the list of apps I bought either even if I do have the email.

The more I look for Space Gremlin, the more confused I am. The forum doesn't seem to work anymore either.
I have sent an email to see if I hear back.
Without the Mac App Store version, Space Gremlin only works in demo mode; that's quite unhelpful.

@siracusa sorry for pinging you, do you happen to know anything about what Space Gremlinโ€™s presence in the App Store? (I believe I learned about the app from you and thus deduced you are the only Space Gremlin user I know)

Is it possible to automatically attach a property to a heading creating using C-S-RET or M-S-RET?

I do like to have a CREATED property on all tasks so I can purge them when they've stayed too long in the list.

@ctietze It worked perfectly! Thank you Christian!

(Iโ€™m still confused when to use add-hook, add-function, โ€˜ or #โ€™ :-)

The value of is not in the packages that are available (Gnus, org-mode, Magit, etc.). It is the fact that these packages live in the same application, manipulate text the same way, and can interact with each other to do exactly what you want them to do.

@galdor What is amazing to me is how extensible both and are while using completely differently approaches.

And how little modern editors have learned from them. I don't want to poopoo on modern editors as some are really good and cool. But very few have been build on this fundamental philosophy of extensibility.

April 4. Another day in Commissioner Gordonโ€™s old-new-life in the decrepit and corrupt Gotham City. But that will change, there is a hope, a light at the end of the tunnel. And it has bat wings.

Whatโ€™s neat about is the polyglot nature of it. I'm writing a library that I later consume in a solution, all without switching context.

I can also run my .NET solution and run my tests. That's a nice workflow.

@khalidabuhakmeh How long have you been using ? About 1year ago, it was a nice editor, but missed tons of features that its elder @Jetbrains' brothers had for long. (Yes, I do know, Fleet is not the same as the rest)

Show me your menu bar! I strive to make mine as informative and as small as possible.

@dimillian Pretty much everything behind Bartender 5.
Still annoyed that the notch hides icons instead of move them over.

@siracusa sorry for bothering you with this question.

In SwitchGlass, โ€œShow All Windows - Activate an app and bring all its window to the front.โ€ Is this action supposed to also restore minimized or hidden windows? Or does it apply only to non-minimized, non-hidden? (The behavior Iโ€™m observing is the latter which is a bit confusing for me when thinking of โ€œallโ€).

Thank you

al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@siracusa Sorry for not understanding yet whatโ€™s the expected behavior (as Iโ€™m not familiar with these API references).

  1. If an app has only 1 window minimized will this window be brought to the front
  2. If an app has 1 window visible and 1 window minimized will both windows be brought to the front?
  3. If an app has only 1 hidden window will this window be brought to the front?
  4. If an app has 1 window visible and 1 hidden window will both windows be brought to the front?
al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@siracusa Quick test:

  1. 1 window visible + 1 minimized => only the visible one is brought to front
  2. app windows hidden => all windows brought to front

layout pro tip: Having two hyper keys makes a ton of difference. And I can't remember the last time I needed an actual Caps Lock key or the actual right Alt/Option key.

Thanks, Karabiner Elements!

@bernd @czottmann

  1. how do you use Right (Alt/Command) as Hyper key? Does that mean that you normally use only left-hand Command for macOS system shortcuts?

  2. isn't Hyper key defined as Ctrl-Alt-Cmd-Shift?

Is there any remedy for the Menu Bar icons lost behind the Notch?

al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@cjk How does Bartender solve the behind the Nudge problem? If Iโ€™m not mistaken when expanding, some of the icons will still get lost behind the Nudge, arenโ€™t they?

al3x,
@al3x@hachyderm.io avatar

@cjk I am not sure I see what the screenshot points to. On my machine, when expanding Bartender, if thereโ€™s enough icons in the bar they will get lost behind the notch. Bartender doesnโ€™t re-arrange them beyond the Notch or present them in a different way.

Is there a specific configuration you are using? Thank you
