In a remnant of Brazil's once-great Atlantic coastal rainforest, an Acromyrmex disciger leafcutter ant carries a leaf back to her nest. The forest where these ants live has been 95% destroyed by human activities. Morretes, Paraná, Brazil.

The lack of moth research is kind of shocking, especially compared to the sheer amount of butterfly work.

Speedo Ants!?

I'm not sure that means what they think it does.

Likely the last frost danger of the year has passed for central Texas, which gives us a license for 100% gardening until massive heat disaster season arrives in July.

After over a year here, and a few months at Bluesky, I endorse both. They're good at different things.

Bluesky is lighter, more ephemeral, more chatty. I'm not sure it'll be around in a year. But whatever. It's fun, like old Twitter, hardly any nazis and no ads. A bit buggy, though.

Mastodon is weightier. It feels more important, it reaches farther. Here is a better place to get information, to discuss things in more depth. There are more features. Mastodon just feels more robust.

Botanical mystery: I bought a hanging houseplant a few months ago. It’s very cute. But I can’t remember what it is, and now it’s flowering little purple tubes and I’m even more confused. I’m pretty sure it’s a Hoya wax plant, but there are a ton of species and varieties and none of them look like this.

Does anyone here recognize my mystery plant?
