OK we're at 15 miles to go in Stage 15. Again, there have been crashes - including one caused by a spectator holding his camera out in the road and taking down Sepp Kuss and teammate; and another particularly heartbreaking one in which K. Neilands (?) basically bike-tripped over himself trying to get a water bottle from the neutral support moto.

He had been riding so great but unlucky. it's like he's doomed.

Marco was at his height in the time when I first became a cycling fan (and a very bad but very happy road cyclist - during grad school)

Yesterday's thing (of which I was irrationally afraid) involved being a van driver for a group of students from AILDI* out to a camp in West in order to learn about the O'odham traditional saguaro fruit harvest, bahidaj.

I don't like driving, and I really don't like driving groups of ppl...but wow it turned out to be a beautiful evening!

Using a reflexive pronoun when none is required.

@Neverfadingwood @sallyjeffery so, not really annoying but I've noticed what I think might be an innovation around the use of 'gift' as a verb, different from 'give'.

So many more 'I was gifted X' than I remember seeing in the past; where I would have expected 'I was given X'....

and 'gifted' feels like the Instagram Influencer version of 'given' to me for some reason

Three days ago, Gino Mäder died following a crash on a descent at the Tour de Suisse.

The starts in a couple of weeks. In the 'Unchained' doco on netflix someone said - 5-10 years ago, nobody attacked on descents, because it's too dangerous - but now happens all the time; and organizers do things like make descents === sprints for a stage finish. 😱 🚴 ⛰️

Halp ideas?

We have a multi-image container that we use as a development environment for a web app.

We have this container running on WSL and Mac, and remotely on a Vultr server running debian11. It runs fine, and uses < 9gigs of disk.

But we set up access to VMs for student developers on a remote machine. The instances run Ubuntu22.04.

And these instances RELIABLY and quickly fill up 20gigs of root disk space every time they're run, choking the machine. 1/x

The files that keep filling up are in the infamous /var/lib/docker/overlay2 directory, and so we've done the recommended trouble-shooting for that (turning off logging at the daemon level), but it doesn't help.

Our idea of most likely culprits are a image, an image, and a frontend image (.js), but this is a really new thing for us and none of us is a expert.

Any ideas for trouble-shooting steps beyond StackOverflow logging stuff?

So far, so good. Two narratives and one budget justification pretty well fleshed out; a one-pager for a small grant and prepping for a big dept of ed competition.

I super duper hate this part but for some reason this summer there are all the grants. We will be lucky to get even one...probably none.

How are classes? Have you been able to have fun with them?

We were punchy because yesterday was a tech day from heck (among other things, such as the rogue dewclaw paw of pain injury pictured here, and very weird/disorienting job stuff).

Basically everything we touched, broke - somehow a postgres db dump only dumped 1/4 of the db; and we have some kind of docker issue that only shows up on our cloud server accounts but fills up the root drive every 20mins...etc.

So there will be cries for halp today, and deep appreciation for responses!
