Time to start the heel. Though I fear I may have miscalculated some, the foot seem a bit long.
I think I'll still finish them as is, I recon they might fit my sister if they are a little too big for me and it would be a nice template to use for adjustments for the next pair. I have the same yarn in a different colorway as well.
In any case I'm sure they'll fit someone.

Since I was photographing this table runner I made a few years back for another reason I figured I might as well show it to you all as well.

It's woven with alternating colors in warp and weft to form a spiralpattern.

A few rows into the 4th skein (out of 6, 25 gram / 100 meter per skein) I have a wingspan of roughly 90 cm when stretched as if to block.

Looks like I'll get to somewhere between small and medium at least for the pattern (small is 112 cm wingspan).

Pattern is from bought on Ravelry and is called Cliathrach

So I decided to try something new today, the pinhole cast on for knitting.
Took a few attempts to get one that actually looks decent. Not sure what I'll be needing it for yet though, got no specific project that needs it lined up.

to find nice accounts to follow you could start with a couple groups: @knitting and @crochet

So I am mostly learning to knit through YouTube (well I learnt the basics as a child). This is great, there's a lot of resources available, but most is in English, so should I ever try to knit after a Swedish pattern, I might have a bit of trouble as I'd know the decrease/increase using their English terms only.
Tried googling for some translations, noticed a lot things doesn't really have a nice shorthand translation, so they become a full sentence of instructions.

To challenge myself I have cast on a lace shawl. I have gotten the first repeat of the body done properly.

I have a lifeline inserted at the current point, and I had one a bit further down initially as well, and that was good as I messed up stitch count and had to frog to the initial lifeline a couple times before I got it right.

Tension is a bit off at the point I frogged to, hopefully that will be less visible after blocking.

So apparently I knit Norwegian style, suppose that makes sense with me being in a neighboring Scandinavian country.

Did learn an optional way to do the purls when doing ribbing though which does not require the yarn to be moved to in front of the left needle, so that could actually be beneficial.

The video presenter did suggest the "regular" method for full rows of purls however as that would be faster/easier in that case.

And we have socks. I did the lazy thing, which worked surprisingly well, and used the same math as with the first pair and used smaller needles (same yarn).

Maybe they are a tad bit on the small side this time, the first pair was a bit too large though.

The next pair will hopefully be perfect, I might have enough neon pink of this yarn quality to try with a couple small adjustments (or the half mm needle size in-between just because).

Knitting socks two at a time with magic loop might be easier if I had a longer cable, so far it works but as I increase for gusset it may become harder.

For one sock, the 80 cm cable was no issue though.

If it proves too hard, I guess I'll have to look into switching cables mid project. At least I do have a longer cable at hand.

@annascrafts@mastodon.online avatar

@MisuseCase @mmezabet @knitting I seen that option, not tried it yet. I don't have two of the same for circulars, but since I have interchangeable ones it may work out with different tips in the ends, on magic loop at least there's only one needle that forms new stitches.

This strikes true somehow.

Reading the full description when buying online helps.

Got a set of wooden double pointed needles, they did seem short.

And compared to the ones I have come across prior, indeed they are.

They are however exactly the length they was said to have when I went back to check at place of purchase...

I made a pair. Knitted toe up.

There are mistakes with the gusset increase (correct number, incorrect increase type in a couple spots), I noticed to late to bother with these.

The socks, while hopefully useful as slippers sort of, was mostly knit to figure the pattern out and imperfections are part of the learning curve.

prompt: who taught you how to ?

When I think back I seem to "always" have done fibercrafts. I'm not even sure, which I learned first. My grandma and my mom always worked on some project, I've spent probably half of my toddlerhood in something crafted by my mother.

I definitely learned before the age of 6, either simple embroidery or crocheting, from my mom. When I started school I also could knit, had even done my first pair of socks.

@FanCityKnits @knitting @fiberarts

I don't quite remember when I learned to knit and crochet, but it would have been a combination of my mom and school (textile craft being a subject from year 3, around 9 yr old) teaching me those. I probably learned some basics at home prior to being 9.

I got weaving from my maternal grandmother. Her loom was the first I owned, unless you count the kiddie version I still have. So while learning basics with her fairly young I'm mostly self-taught on weaving.

annascrafts, to knitting
@annascrafts@mastodon.online avatar

Since it still needs its partner I'll call it a WIP.

Second sock knitted technically though, the first got a bit too big so adjusted my stitch count some and made this that fits a lot better. Now I just need to make a matching one.

Sock is knitted toe up from a YouTube tutorial.

Once I got the matching one I'll find the nicer sock yarn, swatch and calculate how many stitches I need for that in different parts.

Instead of accepting the usual offer of a accessory for Christmas, my adult friend has asked me to teach her to knit.

She has vague childhood memories of knit and purl: a beginner.

Is a simple hat, worked in the round, too ambitious for a first project? My reasoning is a one-skein project, wearable, several learning points.

and welcome :)

annascrafts,
@annascrafts@mastodon.online avatar

@HederaVulpes @knitting a hat might be a good size project, but I'd say let her chose what the first project is going to be, after doing samples of the basics.
A chosen project that gives her joy is more likely to be a successful learning experience, as she'd want to learn doing it

annascrafts,
@annascrafts@mastodon.online avatar

@HederaVulpes @knitting yeah, that might be a bit big to start with, but with a relatively simple pattern it might be doable still.
But might be good to try and convince her to test with something a little smaller first, maybe find something that has increase/decrease and other things that would be part of a sweater pattern, and paint is as swatching for technics.

I'm trying to find more people to follow on this account because idk what is going on with my closet server (the sysadmin is asleep and I don't want to bug him and also I have no idea what the problem is)

so maybe if I post pretty weaving pictures I can catch a or two

colorful twill blankets drying on a rack
a cat lounging on a handwoven blanket-in-progress while it's still on the loom. the blanket is blue and purple with complicated zigzag patterning.

@ggggbbybby weaver (among other things) here, located in Sweden.
You could just follow the hashtag as well, or @weaving (a "group" of sorts for weavers)

Today I'm working with some rug weaving. Pattern is an enlarged rosepath (technically an overshot weave if you look at the pattern draft).
The pattern is done on 4 shafts and six treadles.
I have a small rowcounter to aid me in keeping track of my pattern picks.

Next up in my journey:

Attempting toe up socks. I have never knitted socks prior, don't know if that is an advantage or not.

Yarn is acrylic and basically just for testing out the concept.

I have started and restarted the toebox a few times before getting a version where my tension is ok and it looks rather good at the edge.

Doing it using the magic loop on circular knitting needles

First Mastodon post! I'm a crafter and it doesn't look like many are on here. We are always late to everything :o

annascrafts,
@annascrafts@mastodon.online avatar

@modpodgerocks there's plenty crafters.

You can follow hashtags to find them, just search for your favorite craft to find them, and also there are some groups you can follow (groups on mastodon is a bit different though, see: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/ for information about how they work).

Depending on what crafts you do there's for instance a @crochet group, a @knitting group, a general @fiberarts group to mention a few.

Welcome to mastodon 😀

My lap blanket made out of Tunisian crochet stitch pattern samples is nearly done.

I only have the tiresome, and boring, work of weaving in ends left, and attempt some kind of blocking of the blanket.

It's wonky and I love it. All squares are the same number of stitches and rows, but the different patterns build height/width differently.
