here working on her coding practice between contracts. Looking for help with configuring tests in to run in a suite, since I'm new to pytest and I'm learning its nuances. What I want to do is run a setup method before all of the tests in the class fire off, but NOT before each method, just when the class is launched.

What is the recommended best practice for how to do that? Thanks in advance for any advice!

@anhyzer Awesome, thank you. I'd spotted fixtures being mentioned in searches but wasn't sure what they were yet. I'll look up the docs.

Doing more mod experimentation right now and HOLY SHIT. Apparently, with the right combo of mods, you can in fact make a hot Dunmer character. ;D

In which the Argonian Finds-The-Way escapes a dragon attack at Helgen, and is recruited by the Jarl of Whiterun to recover a Dragonstone from Bleak Falls Barrow.

New playthrough, featuring running in the language! Expect a lot of language geekery and very long compound nouns.

This is a mod-free playthrough, and I will also be tracking how many Achievements I rack up, since I haven't done that before in Skyrim.

question for my fellow or dev folks out there:

Now that I'm waking up my demo projects on my Github again and poking at several other repos of code I last looked at in 2019, I'm seeing a bunch of fancy little badges in various Readmes. I saw when searching for info that these are called code repository badges, but there are also TONS of them out there and I'm not finding clear instruction on how to get and use them.

Does anyone have code repository badges they specifically use and like? If so, any pointers on how to use them? I'm considering putting appropriate ones into my projects.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, any fellow SDETs (or devs) out there who know :

I'm working on upgrading my Python Selenium demo code on my Github, and I'm still running those tests using nose 1.3.7. Which is super old and not maintained anymore.

Who has recommendations as to what Python test framework I should use instead? I see some options out there but I'd like to hear from people with hands on current experience as to which Python test frameworks are best to use with modern code.

annathepiper,
@annathepiper@mastodon.murkworks.net avatar

@brianokken Thanks! That's going to be my first choice just based on what I'm seeing out there in the wild, but it's nice to get that instinct confirmed. I'm working on converting my tests to talk to pytest now.

I'm still an SDET looking for a new position, so if anybody monitoring this tag is interested in hiring an SDET to work on automation, I have code examples of what I know how to do up on my Github. I'm refreshing projects originally posted for my 2019 job search and making sure that same code still runs in 2023 versions of the involved tools: Docker, IntelliJ, Selenide, and Maven.

Code examples are in Python, Java, and C#.

You can find my Github right over here:

@GWillow Hell, every Nord in Skyrim has stuff that ancient stashed in their barns. And their backyards. And their family tombs. There are probably REASONS why they chuck all that stuff into all the tombs the Dragonborn raids on a regular basis. ;D

With all of this news going around about the sunken submersible (and seriously, I hope they find them, though at this point that seems really, really unlikely), all I can think is:

I've SEEN this episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Like, this plot is at least half of them!

HELLO, this is interesting, Paramount has decided to make the entire first season of Strange New Worlds available to view for free (but with commercials) on their YouTube channel!

I quite liked SNW season 1, so for my fellow Trekkies out there who don't have a Paramount+ subscription, now's your chance to actually see this particular flavor of Trek. :)

Gondor calls for aid!

Y'all, I have been informed that my current contract, which has been running since 2019 and throughout the pandemic, now finally has an end date: 5/30/2023. Which means I will be available for work starting in June.

If anybody out there has a need for an experienced SDET, I'd love to hear from you about your position. My current active skillset includes Swift, Xcode, Postman, and Cocoapods. Resume and references available upon request.

Please spread the word! Thanks!

@chuckwendig Imma go with a tie between the American version of The Ring, which was set in the Pacific Northwest and they got the Seattle busses EXACTLY RIGHT, so we walked out of the theater and were all AAAAAAGH WE'RE STILL IN THE MOVIE...

And also Paranormal Activity, which creeped me the FUCK out and my beloved @moira did not help matters by standing right by our bed in the same creepy way after we saw that one. ;D

Call for help from any players who:

  1. Play on Mac
  2. Use the game via Steam
  3. Are running a modern version of macOS like Ventura

I'm having trouble getting the Steam overlay functionality to work in ESO, including taking screenshots. I'm doing a workaround of using ESO's built-in screenshot functionality but I prefer using Steam's, just because that's what I do with all the other Elder Scrolls games I play.

Does anyone have this working? If so, can you advise on what you had to do to make it work? I SUSPECT there are questions of the OS being finicky about app permissions, but cannot confirm. Thanks in advance.
