Looking forward to setting up my used with next week. Looking for recos for easy syncing, mainly for my and stuff. What have you used that you could recommend? I do have GDrive working well on my Windows machines, so could go that route,, though not familiar with how to do that on linux. Thanks!

Today's head-scratcher in and . Hope someone can help me understand this. I've got both W10 and LM installed on my machine. While in LM, using dired in emacs, I can navigate through all of my linux directories. However, the file manager in LM shows a Windows directory, and I can see and access a lot of my W10 files (though not my Documents folder). Why is that? And how can I access all my Windows documents in LM? TIA!

Falling further down the RH adventures.... just discovered and that might be the clincher for me. My writing is very much outline-driven, and I've always wanted an outliner with movable sections (had something in the early PC days that did that). When you combine all of the other functionality, gets more and more attractive. Key binding memorization is overwhelming but just saw some good advice: use M-x and functions at first. So we continue.

Thinking of reanimating my personal "blog", but as a . I've got the domain and am using for my business website. But is there anything that's more lightweight that anyone can recommend? I've looked at but don't really want to spend that much for hosting. TIA!

Looking for some solid recos for how to use on on a dual boot machine (Win and LM). I want to expand the linux space but really don't want to screw up the drive(s). Can anyone steer me towards some clear instructions -- video or whatever. I've googled but don't want to just try anything. TIA.

Hey people. I’ve heard that some people use just one orgmode file for all their writing. Can someone point me to a resource on doing this and maybe weigh in on advisability?

I almost backslid today from . Saw an article touting emacs and thought it sounded really cool! Started to read about it and remembered that I've committed to obsidian for a year.

Whew.

Calling on people who can help with dual boot situation and OneDrive syncing on Windows. Trying from LM to access my Windows documents folder. I can see the folder, called OneDrive in the terminal, but it's colored in red. Which I assume means I can't get to it. And when I try to cd to that directory, I get an error saying that it doesn't exist. I know that is the path as it appears in Windows. I'm getting closer! Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm finding some really interesting blogs out there, and am reminded of the early days of the internet, when it wasn't all monetized and people just wrote about stuff they were interested in for fun. And I had an RSS feeder and got updates when people posted stuff. Plus blogrolls.

So I'm sure there's a way to do this now in , right? Can someone point me in the right direction? I've heard about elfeed but don't know anything about it.

Thanks, good people of Mastodon.

Question for some friends: what's the best way to import a long markdown file INTO an already existing org file and have it look like the rest of the org file? Background is that I'm working on building out One Big Org File and want to import my running daily notes from Obsidian into the org file. I've found ways to convert markdown to org, but don't know how to actually place it in the org file. Thanks!

Thanks to all the people who responded! Today is wsl day. Yesterday was Linux mint in a vm. Tomorrow is native Windows. Just doing some light coding and banging out text. If emacs is reasonably zippy I’ll go with Windows since it’s just less friction. Nothing against Linux but one thing at a time. Plus printing just works on Windows

I just posted on X:

My days on this platform are numbered. Kind of sad because I've made a lot of friends over the last 13 years I've been here. But Musk's attack on the ADL is a bridge too far. See ya over on Mastodon! My deets are in my profile.

I'm a noob to and loving it. Just wondering how many other "platforms" accept or translate .org files? Or will I usually have to change formats if using a file elsewhere?

Anyone know why I can’t view pdf’s in mobile ? Using Obsidian Sync. I can see them in folder view in mobile and desktop win11.

So excited that I was able to write a blog post in #orgmode #emacs and publish it to my #classicpress blog from within orgmode! The new post ain't much to look at, and there's no content to speak of. Just a proof of concept. And it proofed!

Thanks, #org2blog!

Got #obsidian set up and synced using Obsidian Sync on my #linuxmint install. That's a big yay.

Now we'll start the #orgmode vs #obsidian tussle. May the better solution win.

Got to say that finding a good syncing solution for orgmode is critical. And github isn't it. Suggestions welcome.

Purchased my first pad of graph paper for making my very first dungeon. Immensely excited! Got so many ideas from the DMG which I received yesterday.

You know you're a nerd when you're intently comparing pads of graph paper at Staples.

This morning's adventures: figuring out whether to run it natively in Win10 or in VM of Linux. Finally got it to save config settings in Windows, so playing with that for the day. Got a notebook and started writing down key bindings. Getting comfier. Also researched as an option instead of VM. Feel free to chime in, people.

Update on moving .md file into .org on for . Several suggested pandoc, but for some reason I couldn't get that going. Googled how to install, etc., but no joy. So I opened my big old .md file in a buffer, selected All, copied it, and pasted into my big everything in one file org file in the section where I wanted it.

That part worked, but then had to clean up headings. Did it all manually and took about 30 minutes. Oh well. At least now I've got my daily note in orgmode.

Finally got set up and running zippily(?) because I'm running it natively in Linux. Org mode is fast, and I'm loving it. Only one problem now to solve: I set up Linux Mint on my Windows machine as , but now I can't boot into Windows.

Oops.

There's always another problem, isn't there?

Okay people. Could I import my Obsidian markdown notes over into emacs, and then use Github for Access from Every Device? I like Obsidian's notes living on my main computer, but I also sync so I can get to them from iPad, Win11 laptop, iPhone, etc.
