I always sleep listening to podcasts or YT videos. Last night (in my sleep), I enjoyed a 4 hour livestream of from Larry Fluckiger and woke up when he made it to the bottom level. Somehow deeply relaxing and exciting all at once.

I'm always astounded by what can accomplish in a classroom. Today I had a restless, not-listening, off-task group of 5th graders, and ran them through code.org's Hero's Journey. Same pedagogical goal (learn to code steps). Transition and transformation. Like I had a magic wand. They were doing virtual robotics before this, which I actually really like! Another lesson learned.

Now, how to make for CS with minecraft for this group? Gonna do it.

This morning I'm investigating the Emacs Writing Studio series (https://lucidmanager.org/tags/emacs/), which is a wonderful introduction to #emacs. Especially as it relates to writing, which is probably about 80% of what I think I would use emacs for. Happy for other suggestions, thanks!

Best for ? Looking for something cheap that I can throw on.... But it's got to run everything else -- web-based mail, calendaring, etc/

Looking for some solid recos for how to use on on a dual boot machine (Win and LM). I want to expand the linux space but really don't want to screw up the drive(s). Can anyone steer me towards some clear instructions -- video or whatever. I've googled but don't want to just try anything. TIA.

Tonight's conundrum. Cannot connect my Logitech MX Keys keyboard via bluetooth. Or actually, it connects and disconnects repeatedly. Have tried using the BT Manager and also bluetoothctl. Madly googling but nothing working so far. Otherwise, I'm loving LM.

Some thinking and learning in public on how to teach computer science in a progressive educational environment. Would love to hear from anyone about this!

After a few weeks on , I have to say I'm loving the experience. And I'm probably their target audience. Longtime Microsoftie. I don't hate Windows, and I've gotten used to it all through the versions and find it easy to use. However, there's something fresh about the LM experience. And just runs fast. I'm def sticking around for a while.

Anybody ever get #libreoffice connecting to Google Drive recently? AFAF

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@jake4480 Got an error saying it couldn't connect. Evidently a known issue, so maybe related to google's authentication lately. Not worth the effort, so I thought I'd ask if anyone else had found a solution. All of my historical documents are on my Windows partition and then backed up to GDrive. So I downloaded the file I needed to my Linux Mint Downloads directory. Works for today!

I'm finding some really interesting blogs out there, and am reminded of the early days of the internet, when it wasn't all monetized and people just wrote about stuff they were interested in for fun. And I had an RSS feeder and got updates when people posted stuff. Plus blogrolls.

So I'm sure there's a way to do this now in , right? Can someone point me in the right direction? I've heard about elfeed but don't know anything about it.

Thanks, good people of Mastodon.

@publicvoit Downloaded the iOS app, thanks! You say there’s a free version?

So excited that I was able to write a blog post in #orgmode #emacs and publish it to my #classicpress blog from within orgmode! The new post ain't much to look at, and there's no content to speak of. Just a proof of concept. And it proofed!

Thanks, #org2blog!

@jake4480 I know! Still a noob roguelike gamer, but I'm loving them. I also got Dwarf Fortress on Steam but haven't set that up yet on .

Looking forward to setting up my used with next week. Looking for recos for easy syncing, mainly for my and stuff. What have you used that you could recommend? I do have GDrive working well on my Windows machines, so could go that route,, though not familiar with how to do that on linux. Thanks!

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@publicvoit @tivasyk Also, does this work if your home computer doesn't run 24/7?

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@publicvoit @tivasyk I'm getting my used Thinkpad tomorrow. First I'll put linux and emacs on it. Then I'll start to work on putting SyncThing on that and my desktop. Hoping for the best! Thanks for the discussion and suggestions.

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@TheSecondVariation @publicvoit If you're asking me, I'm trying to figure out how to sync my stuff across multiple devices: Windows, LinuxMint, iPhone, iPad..... so that I can do #emacs and #orgmode on all of them.

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@publicvoit Thanks very much! I think it might be the ticket. Question -- does it only sync on startup on each device? When does it happen?

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@publicvoit @debajit Karl, do you have any privacy/security concerns with keeping your files on Git? I wonder about even private repos there.

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@publicvoit @tivasyk So whichever one is "live" is the current host?

birv2,
@birv2@pkm.social avatar

@publicvoit What's your setup and workflow? I've got 2 Windows machines and 2 Linux. Have looked at syncthing but it seemed overwhelming.
