I am not a designer (I think I'm actively bad at design even) so I don't mean to bash anyone, but as a user I find interfaces like this absolutely terrible:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/the-1-sitcom-of-all-time-isn-t-seinfeld-friends-or-the-office-according-to-data-see-the-top-100/ss-BB1lXB5Z?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=0616b5997d6a41b88a4a09b1380343cb&ei=41#image=1

It's so damned busy and distracting, where does the article stop/start? The article itself literally seems to stop at "Counting down from , here are the best sitcoms of all time." which is the clickbaity shit that gets you there in the first place. Where? Where is it? Can you find it? I can't.

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@seaotta Can you find the contents that it seems to suggest should follow? I literally cannot. And it's not just msn - this happens to me all the time and i just frustratedly go "you know what.. I don't have time for this bs" and bail

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@seaotta In this example.. Is it one of those? I literally can't figure it out 😂

@patrick_h_lauke @aardrian I do actually, literally think of this whenever i hear digital ocean.

@patrick_h_lauke @aardrian I mean, I was going to say "or 'blessed' depending on your view of it"

I kinda wish that git command line would be like

"Hey, the thing you probably want to do is

git push --set-upstream origin {yourThing}

Want me to just do that? Y/N?"

That's how lazy I am.

I too would like to announce that I am not on the bluesky board of directors

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@zachleat I can neither confirm nor deny that I am on the bluesky board of directors.... Or any board.... Or even that I am not, in fact, a large language model.

@thisalex I'm more interested in a literal A/B comparison.. Like playing out the same timeline both ways.. You know, the useless impossible entirely philosophical version 😄

Known Knowns: Fun with the DOM, the parser, illogical trees and "unknowns"...

In Google calendar you can have a large dialog in the center of the screen, which has a close button but isn't 'modal' - and is light dismissible. But then when a meeting is happening it gives you a small dialog notification which is not centered but is modal. It is not at all clear which of these is on 'top' (neither has a backdrop I can see) or why clicking around or clicking the X isn't dismissing the large one, or you can't even scroll.

Mastodon is wild.

You can write something like "Imagine you had a cat - and one day it started speaking to you in Spanish. What would you do?"

And fully 75% of the replies will be "I'm allergic to cats so it would never happen."

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@Edent My next actions would depend very heavily on whether this cat speak Spanish in front of other people too, or just to me. 😊 (i know you weren't asking but it's a fun question and I'm not allergic to cats)

AI hallucination of the day.

Matched only by AI's attempt at alt text for this image.

For those who actually need alt text: it's an AI mangling the concept of illustrating the broad eras of the web.

I don't want to link people to the bird site but I'm quite proud of the thing that @Lukew started over there to add MathML-Core support for Svelte 5, which was then picked up and added in the course of a couple of days by others to Angular, Preact and Lit.

That's freakin awesome.

📝 Sunday night, mods asleep, post thoughts on Cosmotechnics.

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@davatron5000 Interesting... I like the topic. So would *cosmotechnics *inform your choice of web browser then? Based on what? Would it change anything about your relationship with open source?

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@davatron5000 Yeah, or maybe also what are the implications... Or how is it funded? There's a lot of potentially interesting questions.

in 2024 <g:plusone>, which I guess has been pointless since when Google shut down Plus in April 2019, still appears on more sites in the HTTP Archive March crawl than the native <var> element. I wonder if they still try to load the code and draw the buttons and so on. / @tunetheweb ?
