blackn1ght,

I don’t think they can see this post with it being on lemmy.world.

blackn1ght,

I agree it’s terrible on mobile, but it’s the wall of text I love on desktop. I want to see as many titles on a subreddit as I can.

The Lemmy web desktop UI is quite similar. I just wish the list of subscribed communities was more accessible rather than being at the bottom of the instance home page.

blackn1ght,

Who should they vote for then that realistically keeps trump out of office?

blackn1ght,

Well according to them they didn’t vote for biden, so who’s the realistic non trump alternative?

blackn1ght,

You can put /modlog after the instance URL, e.g. https://lemmy.world/modlog

blackn1ght,

Guess that was probably on an lemmy.ml community?

My only complaint with the modlog is that it doesn’t say which moderator performed the action. It just says “mod”, so there’s no way for a community to make sure particular mods aren’t just going rogue.

What's the most interesting traditional or formal politeness behaviour or table manners in your culture? Or for any service personnel, in your restaurant?

I love all the ritualized behaviour, secret meanings and unexpected taboos - standing up when someone of higher status stands, elaborate rules for serving and eating, tapping the table to thank the server, never refuse a toast from a superior, stuff like that....

blackn1ght,

We don’t do that here (UK), there’s no order in which people are served their food. It doesn’t really matter, as it’s “polite” here to only start once everyone has got their food.

blackn1ght,

This comment thread is making me feel old!

What funny things have your kids innocently said?

I was cuddling with my 20 month year old daughter, who’s vocabulary is limited to just “dad” and “hot”, on our bed the other evening watching Snail on the Whale, when all of a sudden, after 10 minutes of complete silence, in her cute little voice she randomly babbles: “die bitch”. My poker face skills were...

You can follow him on Strava and see all his runs, looks like he was doing up to 80km a day. On the 3rd of April he did 85km and the next day 81km. Insane!

Edit: his longest run according to Strava was 110km

blackn1ght,

He seems to be doing exactly what they need him to do. He’s fast enough to beat the Ferraris but isn’t causing any headaches with Max. As long as he stays this consistent for several more races I think they’ll stick with him.

Sainz is better and will be ambitious to try and beat Max and do something crazy like try and win a championship and I’m not sure that’s what they’ll want. That said, Ferrari do seem to be improving over the seasons and they might want someone who can stay closer to Max what Perez can do.

‘If you don’t have money to go to Europe by boat, you try to get there by starting a relationship with a tourist’: Sex tourism plagues Gambia (english.elpais.com)

Economic inequality is driving European tourists to the African country who come seeking sun, but also sex. Its government’s plans to attract ‘quality tourism’ have failed to take off...

blackn1ght,

What’s Cuba like? How are things domestically there?

blackn1ght,

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say… Asda?

blackn1ght,

It’s never occurred to me it could be pronounced “gen zee”.

blackn1ght,

I never bother clicking the piped bot links, and I’m not a fan of the tldr bot either as I think there’s activity on a post but it turns out it’s just the bot.

blackn1ght,

Even if you discount the airlines responsibility in this, Boeing don’t make the engines., CFM International do.

blackn1ght,

The landlord, who has been behind the bar at the Hole in the Wall for 20 years and has employed more than 100 staff, said the Nazi armband, about four inches by one inch in size, had been in a glass cabinet on top of a pillar in a dimly lit part of the pub among all sorts of curios for decades and had been brought back from the front by a returning serviceman of the Duke of Cornwall’s Regiment.

So it’s been brought back by soldiers who fought Nazi’s as a prize and kept there for 80 years, and nobody has given a shit all this time until now. And then he took it down after a single complaint. Seems pretty ridiculous to lose the award over this. Maybe all it needed was a little plaque under it explaining why it’s there and that it was brought by returning British soldiers from the war.

blackn1ght,

Churches are places of worship, not rock concert venues. Or anything for that matter which isn’t somehow or in some way worshipping God.

Why? Says who? This seems like an incredibly outdated view of things. If the church wants to stay relevant then they need to seek ways to have a role in the community and bring people into the church. The church is just a building, there’s nothing really special about it, what’s important are the people within it.

blackn1ght,

And how’s that working out? Congregation numbers have declining for a long time. There’s no rules to say that there’s only one way to bring more people into the church.

blackn1ght,

My son (6) has always struggled to play on his own, he’s always wanting to do something with me, which is lovely but obviously I’m not always available. I try and encourage him to do things on his own but he’ll complain there’s nothing to do and that he’s bored and tries to suggest we do something together when I can’t. Any time I suggest he does something on his own he gets really frustrated and gets into a bit of a strop.

My daughter (20months) has always seemed to be way more independent, she can easily play on her own and do her own thing for ages. She loves me reading to her but she’s content to look at books on her own or play with her toys. I can cook dinner for a while and she doesn’t nag or bother me at all.

It’s been really enlightening with our daughter as to how much hard work our eldest was, the constant need for attention and playing was exhausting where as with our youngest we can kind of take a step back for a bit.

Not sure if theyre technically cartoons, but Thunderbirds and Stingray.

blackn1ght,

Agreed. There’s communities where these comments are fine but the science community should be pretty strict about what type of comments are allowed. Every comment section in any community just ends with the same comments.

blackn1ght,

My 6 year old is the same, it’s infuriating. It’s exhausting trying to get him to do the most basic shit, and the time we’ve spent arguing about it he could have done said task about ten times. And there’s never any sense of urgency. We can be in a rush and told him explicitly that we need to hurry up as we’re late and that he needs to put his shoes on (after already being told 4 times) and he’ll be spinning around in the middle of the room. I know it’s normal kid stuff and I probably did it too but it’s maddening!

Tea time is always a point of frustration. No matter what we make he seems to hate it and won’t eat it. He’s decided that he’s vegetarian too, which we support but it has blown all of the recipes that we normally make out the water and meal planning is an even bigger pain than it was.

What really grinds my gears though is when he’s constantly moaning that he’s hungry before dinner, he’ll then eat two mouthfuls of food, say he’s full, then 20 minutes later: “dad I’m hungry, is there anything I can eat?”. YES YOU LITTLE BASTARD, YOUR GOD DAMN DINNER THAT’S STILL ON THE TABLE! Obviously I don’t say that to him but I say it to myself in my mind!

blackn1ght,

Honestly it could be any major city 😂
