Evening thought: the amount of funding Mastodon got this year is probably less than the salary for one of the top engineers working on Threads.
Not sure what to make of it, but maybe it helps understand why things take time to be implemented.
Also a reason why we want to focus on getting more money in 2024 so we can hire more people and iterate more quickly on Mastodon ✊

The rule to not mix data from different sources without consent (or a damn good reason) has been the law here in the EU since 2018. That’s hardly new @verge 😉 Combining Instagram data with new Threads data is simply unlawful over here without asking people first, if it’s okay. You think it's all good and acceptable here because of PROTECTION. But no, this is bad. It makes EU vulnerable and not future-proof.
@dimillian what’s the hold up here? I understood that the AI Act won’t be as difficult to work with as the planned AI law in the US. Don’t give me the “privacy is to blame” response because it is very well possible to use AI by complying with the GDPR, if companies use a little bit of their brains.
@dimillian with a clear goal in mind, that should indeed not be a problem. You mean for example learn from all user inputs that post a picture of a cat which hashtags they use to train the AI for showing you hashtags when you post a cat pic?
@dimillian I understand the criticism but it also bears the question: how much resources did the company make available to be prepared for these laws? None of them are impossible to solve riddles…
On thing that is a modus operandi with me is that you'll rarely see me actively promote or point people towards the top "coffee stars", IG accounts, YT Influencers, or TikTok trendy folks in anything I write or do.
Reason: I feel they already have all the exposure they need or deserve. It's not because I don't think they produce good content.
But I will very frequently recommend good sources on these platforms that don't have a gazillion followers, if they are producing great content.

@sharan nah. Cole needs to return as heel. Anyone who rolls with Callis gets mad heat and with Christian you already have a heel of the highest calibre on the roster. As good as he is as a heel, his stick got old and the organic face turn was really well done. There is no other big face on his level right now.

I'm just saying the company needs him more as a face right now. Who else is there? Bryan Danielson is hurt more than he wrestles. Edge is tangled up in his feud with Christian (rightfully so). Kenny Omega is going nowhere (which is a shame). Keep him face until Ospreay arrives at least.
