Can (and should) I provide a door code for our front door for deliveries to our house when we’re not home? I’m sick of deliveries being put smack in the middle of the front step on a perfect pedestal for porch pirates…

I can set up a specific code for each delivery company and make it only work during certain hours/days when a delivery is expected, so the security implications aren’t too bad imho. My bigger question is: will delivery companies even bother with it?

cjw2001,
@cjw2001@mastodon.online avatar

@cassidy There are alternative delivery options as well where FedEx, UPS, etc will hold your package at a nearby retail location for later pickup. Amazon also has locker pickup. I'd do that before giving delivery drivers access to the house.

More than 128,000 Indiana Republican primary voters cast a ballot for Nikki Haley yesterday — even though clinched the nomination two months ago.

Haley is on track to win more than 21% of the primary vote.

@GottaLaff In Hamilton County (north of Indianapolis affluent suburbs) it was 33% for Haley.

Anyone else had plans to travel to a city in the path of totality for Monday's solar eclipse? I've been looking forward to this roadtrip for weeks, but apparently Mother Nature has other plans.

I was looking forward to trying out the Galaxy S24 Ultra's "100X" zoom. Even bought one of those photo filter lenses for my phone per recommendation from WaPo🥲

cjw2001,
@cjw2001@mastodon.online avatar

@MishaalRahman Staying put in the Indianapolis area as already in the path of totality. So far the weather forecast here is looking promising.

Apple giving a farewell chef’s kiss to Goldman Sachs. 😘

@gedeonm Not really - Goldman's native Marcus account pays 4.5% so the Apple account isn't even paying the market rate.

IMPORTANT. Threads stated policy is to collect and exploit Fediverse user personal data without explicit consent.

Now is a very good time to review Threads Terms of Use (https://help.instagram.com/769983657850450) and Supplemental Privacy Policy (https://help.instagram.com/515230437301944).

Note just by following a Threads user or replying to a post, Meta claims they are entitled to your personal data.

And what do they say they will do with your data? Provide you with "business services (including ads)."

cjw2001,
@cjw2001@mastodon.online avatar

@mastodonmigration @Gargron
They can't provide terms for non Threads users as we are NOT their customers. We haven't accepted anything. Please quit trying to make an issue of a non issue.
You don't accept the Hotmail terms as a Gmail user just because you happen to send an email to someone on Hotmail.
The same is true for federated posts.

Ohio voters: The extremist GOP Secretary of State is canceling votes, purging thousands of names recently from the voter rolls, right before this important referendum on abortion rights. Make sure you were not among them! Check here for your status: https://voterlookup.ohiosos.gov/voterlookup.aspx

cjw2001,
@cjw2001@mastodon.online avatar

@georgetakei I've been getting lots of deceptive text messages opposing the amendment, and I'm not even in Ohio (they think I am for some reason).

"Protect Women Ohio: Issue 1 puts parental rights at risk, empowering abusers in abortion access"

"Ohio parent: a YES on Issue 1 'will create a child predator’s haven in Ohio'"

Disgusting.

Something’s gotta give. I guess it’s my Netflix subscription. Yikes.

cjw2001,
@cjw2001@mastodon.online avatar

@gedeonm While I normally wouldn't buy an ad supported plan and I previously had cancelled my Netflix streaming because I wasn't using it enough, I've currently got 3 free months of the Netflix ad supported plan as a consolation prize from the termination of Netflix DVD service. I've been pleasantly surprised so far at the very low ad load on the ad supported plan. It hasn't been that bad at all. So the ad supported plan for Netflix might make a good compromise.

So our Kenmore dishwasher of 20 years has finally given up the appliance ghost. Considering the lifetime of these things is around 12-15 years, we had a great run.

Now begins the arduous process of finding a replacement. If anyone has any serious recommendations about a reliable dishwasher brand / model I should look at, I would welcome the advice. Thx!

Thanks Thank You GIF by BLKBOK

@gedeonm If you have a Costco membership shop online at Costco.com. Their prices include delivery, installation, and pickup for disposal of the old unit.

You do need to remove the old unit yourself before they arrive but that isn't hard. Also installation may be a separate appointment from the delivery and removal of the old unit.

I bought through Costco.com a couple years ago and was generally pleased with the experience (other than a little bit of scheduling challenge during covid).

I can post. I can reply. But whenever I try to boost @marcelias toot, I get a 503 "service unavailable." So here. I'm boosting it this way: https://mas.to/@marcelias/111189231065588758

cjw2001,
@cjw2001@mastodon.online avatar

@GottaLaff @marcelias
503 typically means an overloaded server:

"A 503 Service Unavailable Error is an HTTP response status code indicating that a server is temporarily unable to handle the request. This may be due to an overloaded server or a server that's down for maintenance."

Give it some time and likely will get better.
