What I’d like from today’s Apple iPad event:

  • Camera on the long side of the iPad (where it belongs)
  • Longer battery life
  • Faster processor (duh)
  • To not have Sherlocked 🙏

@gedeonm Same here. I use my iPad Pro for everything except app development, and I really wish that was doable too. It’s the best and most versatile computer I’ve ever owned and I’m looking forward to my new 11”!

@gedeonm Oh, and I don’t think you’re an outlier, but rather a typical user. I think all the consternation we read is from a set of people that want more — and that’s fine. But I wish they’d be better at also pointing out that these devices work really well for many, many people.

With SwiftData, to enable CloudKit you basically just need to turn it on and make sure all properties have an initial value and relationships are optional. Is there any way to use CloudKit for a different object not stored in SwiftData and do NO synching of SwiftData objects?

@StewartLynch @alpennec If you create a ModelConfiguration and set its cloudKitDatabase property to .none, I think this will tell SwiftData to not use the CloudKit container you’ve set up in your project. (I haven’t tried this, but remember reading it somewhere). I hope it helps.

If one of the primary use cases, from the outset, for Vision Pro is plugged in at a desk, with mouse and keyboard…

…should the platform have had native Mac/AppKit app compatibility alongside or instead of iPad?

Was basing the OS on iPadOS the wrong choice? Will this give it a permanent impairment that hinders it longterm and relegates it to toy computer status for most people, just like its tablet ancestor?

…does Apple at this scale have capacity to pivot?

This stuff keeps me up at night

Using Stage Manager on my iPad for the first time in a while, mostly because I need to test a rewrite of my keyboard avoidance code, but it actually works well enough now I could see myself using it…if I had a 12.9” iPad. A bit too claustrophobic on the 11”.

@agiletortoise I agree. I have the 11” and find it too small for Stage Manager. But, connecting an external display is now a great experience!

I’m switching over to using lists in @ivory with the filter user from timeline on to eradicate seeing posts twice. The short video shows the list topics I’ll be using. My main timeline is now too busy to use effectively. This is a good thing. 👍🏻😊

@matt I’m jealous. LASIK won’t work for my condition. I’ve worn glasses since first grade. Switched to contacts, now back to glasses. I HATE them. Well, they do help me to see, so maybe I don’t hate them. But I don’t like wearing them.

@rafa Still on the fence as well. I’ve never had the “big” phone and am thinking about it this year as I’ve been traveling a lot and could use better battery. But still not sure… (current: iPhone 14 pro).
