@beardedtechguy and myself are going to be working on a brand new list of instances that users can find out a bit of information about that will help them decide if a specific instance is right for them or not.
This is going to be a huge project, but it's going to be something that's going to benefit a lot of individuals in a very positive way!
Stay tuned as we will have more information very soon.
Today at @longreads, we're highlighting a new reading list from Kanya Kanchana for those who love to make lists.
"To love a list is to partake in letter and word, form and change. To make lists is to join a long line of list makers, to indulge in a timeless art, to break down the artificial wall that separates thinking and doing, thinkers and doers."
In particular WHY that particular method? need cross device/platform? 2 b available online? What (about this, or any method) are challenges to you? Do you struggle to organize your notes? What would you wish was better?
Does anyone know if there's a way to make a list on mastodon that follows hashtags? I want to keep up with all these writing tags but not on my main feed. Suggestions welcome.
@sfwrtr I don't follow all that techspeak, but this was my sense, too. Your main feed is just a list. When we make "lists," we're creating a side feed of selected accounts off the main feed, so the only problem is that I don't have a way to put hashtags into lists, not that it's not possible. "Unimplemented feature" is the perfect term for it!
Found a workaround! Woot! You can have a column that lists just a set of hashtags! Fiddly, though.
For me this works only on the desktop web UI because on the phone the "settings" button does not show. There may be ANOTHER bug in my instance server's UI glitch soc theme. Anyway, if you can get a multicolumn view in the web UI using advanced settings, try this: (see pictures)
Click on the setting button in the upper right of the hashtag column. It looks like three lines with toggle buttons.
Click on +Pin that will show up. After you do that, you may have to click on the settings button to show the new UI.
Toggle Include additional tags for this column.
In the "Any of these" field, enter additional hashtags to follow. This provides an OR sense, specifically the post will show if it has any of these hashtags not all of them. I've entered #wordweavers and #writerscoffeeclub. Please note you MUST wait for the dropdown list to update and select from the list, That will get you a label with the hashtag and an X button. THEN type the next hashtags, etc. etm.
There you go. You have a new column of hashtags.
EDIT: The column is permanent until you close it. It would be nice if you could name it and bring it back anytime you want, but there you are. BTW: It shows up on my phone UI, too! A bonus.
Quietus style Baker’s Dozen. These are mostly the records that burned into my mid-teen consciousness & a couple that proved utterly inspirational in more direct ways. Love to see your own! #music#lists#bakersdozen
Want to find ACTIVE journalists on Mastodon? This spreadsheet is just amazing. A couple days ago Martin Holland @mho posted a project of his to promote journalists. It starts with known journalism accounts from the @tchambers list, but also tracks their activity, so you can see who is actually posting regularly.
This is an absolutely wonder resource, and a great asset for the fediverse!
If you like songs & you like bass guitar, you might like my stuff.
Hmm maybe I'll do a thread later if I'm not too busy, with a few words about each of the 11 songs I've got up on Bandcamp so far, so people are more likely to find one they like.
Here's why I think this definitely deserves a spot on your bookshelf (as long as you don't forget to take it off every now and then to have a look inside): https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5610626910
It's fine for #lists - but it's not the most "#Pythonic" way to do this, at least for lists. Like some other built-in objects, lists have a method .copy() which does what it says - returns a #copy of the #object. That's more obvious than using ...[:] when reading the code, so that tends to be the preferred way in Python.
Unfortunately, #tuples don't have .copy(). They do support [:]. 🤷
If you haven't used LISTS yet, I highly recommend giving the feature a try.
🗞Especially helpful for specific categories, like News, for example.
✨️Or very useful to separate from your Home timeline those pesky "boost happy" tooters 😉😏, without loosing the ability to scroll that content at your own convenience .

Well, after messing around a little, Kbin seems to be able to do both. I can #follow your PeerTube #user or #subscribe to your #channel. Interestingly, PeerTube seems to allow you to create multiple channels under a username which is kinda similar to Kbin's #collections or Mastodon's #lists.
I'm moderately annoyed by the fact that you can't nest #lists in #Mastodon. if I want all members of list L to also be members of list M I have to manually add people to both and keep the two in sync. This is Not Nice™ (but it could be worse).
In Twitter, I had mastered the lists.
here, I'm a little bit late, I had been off my PC for 6 months and I don't do well on mobile devices.
I've been setting up my NEWS, FRIENDS, CHAT MOST, those type of lists, making it easier to find people. #Mastodon#Lists#Sorting#Setup#Cats#Conversation#News#Humour etc
Q: Is there a way on Mastodon to share or publish lists of users I follow?
I'd like to publish the lists I have to help new Mastodon users get started with following other folks on Mastodon that are amazing contributors to a topic of interest.
